Default Wraith Chassis Ascender Axles

I traded for a wraith chassis and decided to try some of these axles.
What are your guys thoughts?

Pics make threads better!

I want to use these 2.2 wheels with a 55t Holmes expert torque master 540 motor. I am hoping it will not have enough guts to wipe out the axle gears. Also kicking around using 1.9 wheels to give it more of a scale appearance. It already has the vanquish CMS mount. I am going to have to make the panhard chassis mount and then sort out some links.

When I put the axles together I noticed a bit of backlash in the gears. I put both of the shims on the ring gear side to tighten things up. It didn't get rid of all of it and its nice and smooth. I am hoping a little more tooth engagement will keep them from breaking with the 2.2 wheels.

Working on the front end today and noticed that they did not want it to be easy to use these axles for a longer build. The ball and socket on the drive shafts are opposite everything else. I tried to use two of the female parts and cut off the male from another to glue up a longer shaft. I used super glue and it got stuck a little sooner than I wanted it too. I pushed on it real hard and ended up with .5 inch sticking out. That is what I wanted glued in. So off to ebay for a drive shaft set(VTR232070). I was looking at these parts and they just have losi design written all over them. I started looking through my bag of comp crawler spare parts. Looks real close. They were made just enough different that that the spline does not work. I wanted to see if the plastic tubes would bolt onto the vaterra cvd. Only had the universal type laying around.

Shortened the wheel base to 13". I just shortened the rear links.

I got ahold of a winch and did not like any of the methods that I found to attach it. With the chassis mounted servo there would be interference issues when turning. The one that I liked most was the RC4WD kit that moves the bumper forward. I did not like the bumper getting pushed out into the way. I ended up finding a pocket of space just in front of the transmission that I could mount it in.

Had some extra lights. Not caring for a roof there was a good spot to add them.

Found a good use for the floating battery tray mount. Also a use for servo mount bushings. I have watched a lot of winching videos. It looks like a lot of them try to burry the front and lift the rear with the winch cable pulling from so high. I think this will pull the front up and have it pulling less to do the same work. With the fair lead so far away from the spool the wire should spool up much better like a fishing reel.

The winch mount also has a slot cut through it for a battery strap. I like how it allows a 3300 2s to drop all the way down to the floor board.

If I take this to a scale comp. Is it going to fit into a class?

Class 3 because it doesn't have a frame

From what I have been reading the axles barely take 1.9 wheels. Also I think the 2.2 wheels will create more torque twist than I can stand.

It performs really well with the 1.9 wheels. Tried to compete in class 3 with it. It was comical coming from comp crawling to notice how much I would struggle before winching. Especially in the heat of the moment I forgot it was even there.

Nice, I like the way 1.9 Wraiths look.

I like the look of the 1.9 wheels much better too. I am going to have to make some metal chassis rails to get it into class 2. Class 3 on 1.9 wheels was more winching than driving.

Reading things on this forum is always rewarding. I have been scratching my head trying to get around the one choice for ring and pinion. I was thinking about running taller tires up front. I did not want to make it look like an atv unless there was no other way. Browsing I found a thread by Dready and there it was. Now I have one of these on its way.

A little update. Got lazy and never used the transfer case. Ended up not liking the winch. The drifting winch line was unnerving. Removed the winch and installed a gear keeper. Also got a driver from Redjones. The spare tire hangs up on everything. I like the look and low CG enough to just deal with it. I am super impressed with the stock axial trepadors. They just seem to work well enough on anything and not excel anywhere.
