Looks like the smaller ring is putting more stress on the pinion.
Makes sense.

Bummed to see this happening but i wanted to address this asap since it doesn't take much for an issue to get exaggerated (no disrespect meant to anyone here). I have been looking into this with our customer service team and combined with the posts here and the few calls we've had, I'm hoping this is an isolated issue with a small batch (when compared to the number sold so far).

I"m looking into this with our vendor to see what if anything could be happening. We do have an inspection policy that our vendors and our QA team use but unfortunately we can't check 100% of the parts.

That being said, it shouldn't happen like some have pointed out so easily but I'd also like to note even in 1:1 rigs parts eventually let go. Either way, we'll work hard to make sure our customers are happy, so please if you have an issue call our customer service dept.

Thanks,
Rich

I really wanted the K-5, I had small doubts about the diff gears, and the proof came... I'm sorry to say, but till you have managed the problem OR sells hardened parts, I will put the kit on hold!

Yeah I wish I would have gotten something different that's for sure. For a $320 KIT we shouldn't have issues like this. And Rich, 1:1 rigs use hardened gears.

Likewise. Had the K5 in the cart with wheels, just waiting for the tires I wanted to come in stock.
Will be holding off to see how this plays out.

It had everything going for it over the scx10

Beefy frame rails, check
Pan hard, check
Large pinion outer axle bearing, check
Adjustable wheelbase, check
Full aluminum links, check
Shock hoop braces, check
Battery over axle, check
Great K5 body, check
Two speed tranny, check
Small pot metal ring, and pinion, fail

While I can appreciate the scale look, I would have rather seen a offset front axle vs smaller pumpkin.

Someone will address the need for a hardened ring, and pinion, just may be a while.
Don't see this kit surviving without it. It just won't be able to compete with the durability of it's competitors.

When the losi comp crawler came out, they had problems with the worm gears and axle shafts right away. Rich took care of me quick! Thank you Rich. I wouldn't let the couple small problems keep you away, its that big problem with the Chevy body that should scare you away! Give us a full size bronco damn it!

Axial still ships with plastic trans gears, weak links, humongous axle housings, and frickin dogbones for gods sake, just to name a few problems. Have patience, I think this could be the next best thing. Just my opinion

Rich
Horizon has been awsome getting replacement parts sent out for that you guys get an A+.
This is an awsome kit with many parts that are upgrades from the standard kits, that being said in the 2 or 3 weeks I have owned the ascender it has spent more time waiting on replacement parts, than wheeling. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not dogging this kit I am actually very pleased with it's capabilities. And anytime a new vehicle is released there are always glitches involved

If it's just the righ and pinion gears and the driveshafts, i won't be fuzzing over it. It's new on the market for crying out loud, upgrades will be out shortly for sho. Haha. You should experience the Yeti, at least the Ascender have spares available asap.

Posted to soon, which as far as I can tell you are working on getting them straightened out, as I told your product development guys, you put together one really good vehicle, but stopped short of a truely fantastic vehicle, ie: plastic driveshafts, non hardened gears in spools, but I am sure these glitchs will be remedied, either by horizon or aftermarket vendors. Either way im still quite pleased with ascender

"I wouldn't let the couple small problems keep you away,"

Ring and pinion failure is not a small problem. It can earn you a DNF, and turn your new rig into an expensive paper wieght.
Most guys breaking these have not even applied brushless power to them.
I realize everything has growing pains, but everything seemed so well engineered that this is a little shocking.
The stock drive shafts can be modified for strength, and MIP has addressed that issue probably unknowingly.
Fact is MIP shafts are useless if the stock weak shafts aren't failing before the pinion.
Until there is a fix the rig can't be trusted to finish anything it starts:(
I'm sure Axial is breathing a big sigh of relief.
This kit could have had the market cornered. Maybe it will some day, but it's going to take a few months for the solution.
Not hating, I think it's an amazing rig that just fell short.
Now if Rich popped on saying hardened gears are in the works, and will be available in the next few months that would be a game changer.

Thanks for the comments guys. Just to be clear, all of our parts are heat treated for hardness. Machine cut gears could be better however the cost to produce these could be very expensive. The material we are using for our gears are the same that are used in the Losi 5ive-T, TLR 8ight Nitro platform and our other vehicles. I'm thinking (and hoping) that it could just be a small amount that got through...again, if you have any issues contact customer support.

Thanks again,
Rich

I don't think we are looking for them to be included in the kit, it's already an incredible value.
I think we are looking for a hardened ring and pinion option like Axial has been producing for years at a similar price point.

It's already a kit. So minus the electronics. For that price for the love of God machine your gears and put out a solid driveline. Sorry Rich. You don't make it. Just the face here. Nice rig. But a poop driveline makes it about as good as a rc4wd trail stomper.
