Ascender Wheel Base & Link Reference Guide I've seen the comments about confusion with the links needed and center trans positions for the different wheel base options. The K5 Blazer requires the 314mm (WB4) Wheel base. Re: Ascender Wheel Base & Link Reference Guide Hi Rich, thanks for doing this, and I'm glad to see your WB2 is actually what I ended up at anyway. Now I also had to chop 8mm from the front inner drive shaft (both where the shorter parts) so it didn't bottom out. My main worry is that the people on these forums are a fraction of the people actually building these and getting the instructions sorted should be a massive priority. The kit itself I love it bud, the parts are great quality, its functionality is superb and you should be proud of what you've created. A good old bollock sandwich lol"thumbsup" |
Re: Ascender Wheel Base & Link Reference Guide I built mine by the book: WB1 with 61 mm top and bottom front links instead of the 66mm bottoms you say here. I suppose this is why the front axle is so clocked. I like where this wheelbase ended up (267mm), so I'm probably going to use a shorter upper link rather than put the 66mm rods on the bottom or maybe drill another hole and slide the whole tranny backwards to split the difference. I did already hack 6mm off the front shaft to fit it as is so that might actually make it TOO short. We shall see. Why are these wheelbase options so huge? Looks like the actual '86 Blazer had a wheelbase of 2642mm, so this 314mm is more like 11.8% scale than 10% scale. I'm not necessarily complaining. All the other bodies I've ever built with actually run small (9.2% to 9.5% scale) so obviously it's not an exact science. I'm just a math douche. |
Re: Ascender Wheel Base & Link Reference Guide Yes, that is why your front axle is clocked back, not enough caster. Either way, you can correct it any of the ways you mentioned, always good to think and splitting the difference by drilling holes and moving skid may work better for your setup. Re: Ascender Wheel Base & Link Reference Guide Yes, the battery tray to axle link needs to move to the back side of where it was for Blazer 12.3"wb. Carefully press the upper pivot ball out of the dogbone link, flip it 180' and press it back in. This is same as Broncos rtr setting. |
