Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER after looking closer I have another idea for this metal bracket that will be more rigid. |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER I’m about to JBWeld, always open to suggestions, please elaborate. :) I know we both have drawers full of half built special brackets lol. Good chatting and thanks for the suggestions, I like it! 8) |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Shizdialed! Hole in servo mount just happens to be in the same spot I drilled the axle pumpkin! Take 2mm length off the 2.5mm buttonhead screw, littel JBWeld under the aluminum piece, tighten screws and bam! :ror: Thanks again to Rockhugger for the suggestion! 8) In stock online, unlike the previous link. https://www.amainhobbies.com/gmade-a...SABEgLTdfD_BwE Picture updated, I removed orange spacer, trimmed screw down couple millimeters, trimmed the 2.5mm screw that goes from inside axle housing and through the cut up G-Made servo mount (red peice) and added 3mm flat washer (bent to curved surface of housing) between housing and red bit. :) http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67347.jpg |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Wow, lotsa changes coming for this truck... Can't wait to see the end result! |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER I feel much better about that "thumbsup" looks much mo solid'er |

Had a great time at Crawl for a Cure 2019 with Rockhugger, Erica, Ed, et al! Start of the 'competition' trail: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67344.jpg One of many gates, started the day about 5am and arrived home very late, had an awesome hike (great exercise and tiny trucks!), lots of tacos before the afternoon raffle drawings, http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67345.jpg Raffles! :) http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67346.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67343.jpg Edit: Updated front axle picture in posting above for the final front upper link mount brace! :) |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER That was fun "thumbsup". great pics... post more if you have them please |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Yes, it was! Thanks, I've got more pics, but these turned out the best. Just received new slider outer pieces from BPC to accomodate the wide K5 Blazer and K10 bodies, fits great! Thanks Bruce! :) http://bpcustomchassis.com/index.html http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4446-67404.jpg |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Holy crap, finally sliders for the K5 that don't look like crap and don't have huge holes for rocks to get caught in! To be honest I'd be fine with plastic floorboards like the SCX10 II has, but steel is good too. ;-) |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Quote:
Is there a part number to order these? I looked on the site and don't see them. |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Quote:
Agreed, steel is nicer for weight down low. the realistic sounds scraping rocks, and they don't bend around while rock rubbing like plastic can. 8)"thumbsup" Quote:

Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c088c375a0.jpg Cut out Pro-Line’s 1946 Dodge Power Wagon, loves this body! Might push the bed up flush with back of cab, deciding whether to cut out lexan sliders and narrow up the fenders. Going with inside and outside paint. Vaterra Team Driver |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Nice! If you could replicate those sliders with something more durable and functional, that would be perfect. |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Looks awesome I love this body too. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" |

Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Quote:
Thanks! They've got BPC laser cut steel sliders underneath the lexan, not sure what I'll finish the outside with. Either the BPC steel outer slider pieces or a piece of delrin or? "thumbsup" Quote:
Thanks, it's a favorite and a classic! "thumbsup" Quote:
Agreed! Yes lot's of internal dialog before any cutting! Sleeves rolled up, nice, and thank you! "thumbsup" Edit' Looking at Wertymade front bumpers, I've no longer got an SCX10 around to measure, does anybody know if outside to outside of frame rails is same between SCX and Ascender or? |
Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Rockhugger and I got out for a high sierra hike and then some awesome crawling! First the hike. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fa03658e99.jpg Interesting rocks on the trail. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8fb449215f.jpg Going up https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...007b93da8d.jpg Stairs https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...31e0626d76.jpg |
Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Old trusty Va'Blazer Number 1 made the trip with us. Steel plate cover over 90’ vertical shaft dug by hand (aided by dynamite) so that they could dig from four directions (not only would they work from the outside in on tunnel , they’d work from the inside out) through solid granite so as to speed up tunneling for the Central Pacific Railroad in 1866. Rate of digging on the main shaft was only about 10 inches per day! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b33bb3b07b.jpg When hoisting rock by hand derrick became too difficult, they anchored a locomotive engine atop the shaft to become a hoisting engine. Notice the rusty old bolts used to anchor the stream engine to the granite. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...24965c46aa.jpg Please standby to standby. :) Vaterra Team Driver |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Thats a beautiful spot and very interesting story! So were you crawling on the rock they hauled out in making the tunnel? that would be funny |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER We were crawling on the mountain and granite they were tunneling through, near Donner Pass. There is a trail that leads down to the tunnel the train passes through. Maybe next time we will explore that. There is a lot of history in the area, not to mention the first axial fest. :ror: |
