LiftedAWDAstro's Bronco

Picked up a Bronco rtr from my lhs and am glad I did! My wife has a Poison spider Wraith and I had been using a Summit but found the Wraith way more fun to wheel as it takes more driver skill than the Summit. The Summit just went over pretty much everything. I wanted to to get to a more "scale" rig so I sold the Summit and bought the Bronco.

First step was to solder on a Dean's connector and move the battery tray. I already have regular sized SMC LiPo's so I didn't want to buy new shorty packs.

I moved the battery tray up off the axle and mounted it to the front shock towers. There is an extra hole so I used an piece of plastic from a broken bumper and cut to length and threaded some M3 screws into it.

Re: LiftedAWDAstro's Bronco

Used some Revo rod ends and steering arms from a Slash to make the link mounts for the battery tray. I then needed to mount up a new rear bumper I had a buddy TIG weld up at work last weekend. I also lowered the body a few holes in the mounts.

I was worried about that but is still seems quite stable sidehilling. I will be adding some aluminum rock rails and a front bumper to match the rear as well. These add a fair amount of weight down low.

You'll enjoy this a lot more than the Summit or the Wraith, very well designed and built scalish crawler! I would buy some SMC 4400 2S shorty packs and use the stock battery tray, it will crawl much better and with stock electronics I get 3 - 4 hours without my lights plugged in. :)

EDITED: I meant 4400mah 2s hardcase shorty lipos. Sorry!

Why only 2200 mAh? My Turnigy 4200 mAh batteries fit fine and will last all day.

I have the RTR bronco and a kit ascender, I love them both. The bronco is mostly stock with different tires and rims, great truck

Thanks guys! Built some rock rails for it today. Went out for wing night with the wife so no putting it together tonight! Going to work on it tomorrow. Should have new pics then.

Rock rails work awesome and protect the body nicely. Wife and I have been out playing in our backyard course that is coming together nicely!

I like the rock rails!

You should check out mine and others battery tray ideas. I raised the front of my tray and laid a scx10 board across battery mounts in sideways and down low.

Thanks! I have looked through a bunch of different ideas on battery trays and may possibly change it sometime this winter. If I decide to do an interior, I will have to move the battery...or buy some shorties!

I have now run many 5000 mAh packs through it and the only issue I have had is the driveshaft setscrews have backed out. A little blue locktite and good to go. Also started mounting lights.

My driveshaft set screws were always backing out too. I've even had them back out after loctiting so keep an eye on them. Love the bumpers. Nice work!

Re: LiftedAWDAstro's Bronco

Bumpers look good. I had driveshaft setscrews back out after I loctited them too, be sure to clean up the assembly /machine oil that is all over the metal parts from the factory. I did this and put extra loctite on the driveshafts and no problem since then.

Re: LiftedAWDAstro's Bronco

Thanks! I will keep an eye on the set screws.
