I changed my ESC and it turns out the HobbyWing WP1060 still runs like a charm. I had somehow, accidentally enabled ABS on my transmitter and that was causing the cogging/stuttering not the ESC or motor. I still replaced it with the HobbyWing WP1080 though. It has a lot more adjustability and I'm in love without how smooth it is on startup in my kitchen test! Now I can't wait to get it out on the trails.

I can vouch for those axles and the performance gain. JTR's truck was all over the trail today.

I got it for the adjustable drag brake. The adjustable BEC is a nice touch. But I hadn't realized this ESC has a bunch of other startup and braking options. I love how smoothly and slowly it starts up. So far I'm really impressed.

I've been reading about that new HobbyWing WP1080 esc and it sounds great, looking forward to more input on how it runs for you.

I am not running an external BEC. I set the internal BEC to 7.4 and it was whipping my front wheels around even at a standstill.

Sorry late to the party..... Weight down low.....my $0.82 worth... Until I can justify the $, I "spent" $0.82 to add some weight, let me know your thoughts +/-. I took 4 US Currency nickels, put them in a row, elec taped them. I did this 4x and then joined them to make a rectangle pretty much the size of the battery tray. Placed at bottom of tray and strapped in the battery. I know this is downstream of the suspension travel but at least not rotating mass ! |

The HobbyWing QuicRun WP1080 ESC performed flawlessly this weekend. I really do love how smooth it is. Definitely my new favorite "budget" ESC.

| Re: Jato The Ascender I have also been running a WP1080 with a RC4WD 35t in a 99% stock Ascender. I havent gotten a lot of time with it yet, as I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago and am just getting to where I can walk outside again. Its really smooth, has great drag brake settings, and it can be made totally silent! No motor whine! If it keeps running like it has been, I wont be buying any more expensive ESCs.

The Ascender impressed me again today. I just love this truck and the performance. The only thing that could use an upgrade is the motor. I'm happy with the torque, but not the wheel speed. I got my dad the Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster 13T for Christmas and I'm leaning towards that motor for my truck. I still love the HobbyWing WP1080. It's so smooth and quiet. Here's a few photos from today's trail run. |

For those guys running Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster 13T motors in their Ascender on 2S. Which pinion and spur are you using?

Jato - Are you still running your Beef Stick battery tray mod? I just tried it myself in a short wheelbase Bronco - holy crap! How is this mod NOT all over the internet? It's brilliant! Everyone Else - If you don't know what I'm talking about, go back to the beginning of this thread and read it again. All of it. Slowly. Then try it, clean the poo out of your pants, come back on this thread and thank Jato. |

I think it hasn't been that popular because, in line with their other horrible rules, this battery tray is not competition legal. I don't participate in snail races though so I don't have to worry about that.
