So I'm giving up on the cloth bed cover. It's impossible for me to make it look decent. I can't find an example of anyone that has done it, so I'm stuck. Ive put putty around the styrene areas and sanded and shaped the corners a bit. I'm gonna paint the cover and top black. Maybe the whole truck. For now I'm sticking the mmp back in and staying out of the water. I may waterproof it in the future. Ive lowered the body as far as I can, and fully tucked both bumpers. my 2 piece interior setup has come together surprisingly well as I was just eyeing everything up. I need to make door panels(seems simple), cover the trans area, paint it, then add carpet. My driver is a skeleton(pic on page 1) I got from the $ store last Halloween. I only had 1 seat laying around, so instead of a passenger seat, gonna figure out a wooden box, buy a bunch of those 1$ skeletons, chop them up and fill the box with bones(spares for driver haha). Then detail the dash, and the interior should be finished. Mechanically, next up I wanna get ssd did covers, some sliders, then a pair of codyboy axles. Right now I like how stable the truck is. Ive backed the front pre load all the way off on the front shocks, and the rears are at 6mm preload. The sway bar is perfect, and the trucks extra weight is really helping me keep momentum up the dirt inclines. I'll post pics when I paint. Not much extra doe atm so not much progress in near future... Ive used Tamiya lexan black to paint the outside of a body before, but it still came out pretty glossy. Is there a better option to get a flat surface that will stick to both the styrene bed cover and the lexan roof? Edit: I'm also gonna put a primer color under it also Last edited by rag6; 09-20-2016 at 04:44 AM. |

Driver dropped starting fluid and fell in!!!! Her stance and bumpers with no spacers. The front mounts will come down one more hole to lay the grill right on the bumper. I have to slightly clearance the upper and lower firewalls to do that. Have a small amount of body rub to cut out, and the sides need trimmed to clear sliders but don't wanna till I get real sliders: Rear: So that's before paint. I'll get more up as I go |

Looking very nice, userid Easyover has a build thread here and pics posted in the stickied picture thread at top of the page where he glued fabric on the roof and bed canvas top. His turned out well. Your door panels look good just do as you go along, easily cut sanded glue more on to build up. Kinda fun, I hadn't built a static plastic model in years when I built my HiLift hood pin holder for my Blazer, turned out nicely though. |

Btw... Yesterday I stopped into lhs to pick up styrene, and was checking out all 3 rtr versions, and noticed that all 3 of them had much softer foams than my kit. Can I modify mine to be softer without causing the sidewalls to get too soft? They work well now side hilling, but when I transition from loose surface to large rock(reverse direction of where im coming off the bridge above) I think a softer foam would grab those rocks better. I can make it up that incline as is, but its pretty ugly full throttle bouncing around till I get a lucky snag. I know I can just buy foams, but if I can just modify mine for free I would rather do it the cheap way haha. And.... Checked out easyovers cloth roof and bed covers pics. Doing it his way should be pretty easy for the bed, but I dont like the way the cab cover overlaps itself, and the fuzzy edges(was my biggest concern). My roof would be even more complicated. But after seeing the bed, and how good it looks, I think it may be possible to pull off the wrap around bed cap to hide the styrene to lexan joint and all that putty thats bound to crack and fall out. The roof will just have to be painted. Ty for pointing me to those pics Last edited by rag6; 09-24-2016 at 08:28 PM. |

So I need to make the drivers door panel. First one looks ok, but I hope to do better with this one. Scraps, .020"sheet, .060"sheet, half round 1/4" rod, and rectangular hollow beam. Used 320 grit sponge sanding block to clean excess glue. Plastic weld, a hand saw, and a file round up what I used. More as I go.... Last edited by rag6; 09-27-2016 at 02:29 AM. |

So far I think this one is a little better. I do wish I would have made the arm rests a little longer, and straightened out the ribs on the first piece... Im not claiming to know what im doing, but im learning a ton just by doing it, so if ya have the urge to try, go for it. Its not hard to produce a useable piece. Im not gonna document the whole interior, but I will finish this piece to help anyone who would want to try...

Styrene is pretty fun, just glue another bit of styrene on to lengthen the armrests. |

Good idea, but im a little burnt out atm after 12-hrs on these panels: Im pretty happy with the result. Def better than I thought I was capable of. Things I learned: Never throw any scraps away. Im even keeping the dust and shavings, who knows I may be able to use them. Always start with a piece much bigger than needed. Its easier to to handle, and its much easier to take material away than add it back on. Take many breaks. I noticed at the end of my sessions my quality control was going into the toilet lol. Most importantly its not as hard as you think |
