Default Natedog's 1.9 Wrascenderaith

Natedog's 1.9 Vaterra Wrascenderaith!

I've been wanting to build a 1.9 Wraith for couple years, but hadn't got round to it and was not in love with the giant SCX10 axle housings, but now that the much more scale Ascender axles are out it's time! My inspiration for a Wrascenderaith is Metalry101's sweet build:
Wrascenderaith?

Here's how she sat before I parted axles, wheels and tires:
WIth XR10 beadlocks

I'm going to run 1.9s on beadlocks, but am tire shopping for something little bigger than the Ascender TSL but not giant, what do y'all suggest?

I love the 1.9 Wraiths. I have a chassis on the way to me so I can build one (using SSD axles pirated from my SCX10, the Ascender has rendered it expendable ). Will you be installing a Vaterra trans to get the gearing down?

As for tires, the tall, skinny ones look good on 1.9 Wraiths. Maybe something like the Pitbull Mad Beasts or Axial Wildpeaks would work. They may be too big for what you want but the KLRs are hard to beat.

Hehe me too! Looking forward to your build too! That's what happened with my SCX too...became so expendable I sold it.

I was going to try the Wraith tranny first because it's all shimmed up with HR lightweight steel gears, but may need the gearing of the Ascender trans. Two-speed Ascender trannny would be nice...lol. This is going to on 3S minimum.

Thanks for tire suggestions, I really like the look of the Wild Peaks and size seems about right. I'll try my Trepadors with CI DW foams, but maybe too skinny?

I would try the RC4WD 1.9 Interco IROK. I have them on my Honcho and they just work...

Hey Nate, I have some RC4WD 1.7 Interco IROK mounted on 1.9 wheels, and they are a nice size. I could do some comparison photos if you would like.

Ernie,
Hey Ernie,
That would be great if you have a tire line-up photo.
Thanks, Nate

That is going to be killer! I love it. I don't like my 2.2 Wraith so I should try this.

RC4WD Iroks are great tires, but they wear faster than other brands in my experience. I'd suggest ProLine's TSL XL Super Swampers.

Hey Nate, here are some tire photos.

From left to right, 1.9 JConncept Scorpios mounted on 2.2 wheels.
1.9 Pit Bull Growler mounted on 1.9 wheels.
1.9 Pit Bull Rock Beast mounted on 1.9 wheels.
1.7 RC4WD Irok Super Swampers on 1.7 wheels.

And I think someone mentioned 1.9 Pit Bull Mad Beast, so I'm showing it with the Growlers.

All have two stage foam ( closed cell inner and medium outers.
I threw in the Scorpios, because I really like the way they feel, think compound wise the feel the same as the Iroks. When I made the foams for them and the Growlers I made them a little wider than than the other three.
Hope these help you guys out.

Ernie,
Thanks, those are helpful. Can you put a Vaterra TSL in this pic?

They work great, but wish the look was little more scale to a real tire.

Sorry Nate, I sold my Vaterra TSL on a truck earlier this year. They were close to the same size as the Pit Bull Rock Beast , but not quite as wide.

Yes, I've built both axles from Ascender kit, links (re-used a few from my RTR since I swapped them for Vaterra HD lower links), SSD Silver Diff Covers, Vaterra Aluminum Shocks, etc. Shimmed both axles same as my other Ascenders, front axle was giving me some roughness at first. Rear was all good, don't overtighten the four screws that hold the diff covers on. Whenever building axles or tranny, set them up, get all shimmed and then grease it and do final assembly. I used to grease while building, but this time I had to re-shim and check several times, was messy, so now I grease it last.

Cleaned up Wraith by removing old links, installed longer screws (3x30mm capscrews with flat washers under the heads) in chassis with Axial aluminum 7mm wide spacers to take up space between upper link mounts. The Ascender upper link mounts will be more inboard on the chassis than stock Wraith. Used a rat-tail fail to slightly elongate and round the skidplate lower link mount slots to give the end links room to move freely, should have done this for the Traxxas Revo ends and VP lnks I was using can see where they rub each other and caused slight binding. Going back to my Traxxas 550 can 21T motor.

I would go with 2.2 bulldog. I just built a Yeti with 2.2 stock tires from the kit and I got to drive a Yeti with 2.2 bulldogs and closed cell inserts. It just climbed real well for a Yeti. Same Holmes motor and ESC.
