I agree. 45* corners on the rear.

WOW, 45 degree corners, you guys are really wanting me to work on this one! So do you mean bobbing of the each corner on the bed a little at a 45?

LOL, just measure in aboout 1" at 45* angle and then clip off that much of the rear corners.

I think it'll look better and it should crawl better in tight spots.

I wanted to do it that way from the beginning, but was being lazy in my old age.
To do that sounds easy, but had to build a new frame, each bed needs to be at a 22.5 angle. It was quicker than doing a retro on the old one. I built the frame as a one piece rap around, and mitered the frame at each bend. I will post photos later.

I'm not surprised, I've done that kinda stuff now and then and then I look at it and have to re-do it. Now you've done it the way it should really be done.

OK guys, I do listen to your suggestions. It took a good part of the day drawing this up and getting all the angle right. I want one continuous piece for the frame work and made it out of some rectangle tube ripped down the middle. Here is the first two bent and soldered, and the next two ready to be squared up.

Just a start, but I think I'm going to like it!

Everything is just sitting in place. The black lines on the cab are where the old cage was riding.

I want the flatbed to ride a little lower than the bed of the cage did.

Wheel base will be 12 3/8", so the rear should have good clearance. I'm going to do a tall rear bumper plate tucked up under the bed. That's where I'll mount the lights. Going to have a light bar mounted on a headache
rack covering the rear window, and tapered bars running down each side of the bed.

Starting to really get into this build!
Ernie

I don't think I'll do leaf, not a big fan. I Had a nice TF2 I took in trade and it went to SHOme and Rhett last year. "To Each his own".
When I get closer to mounting to the body I will take a look and see how I think it will look and function best.

Good idea Rich, I should have painted the link mount black so it doesn't jump out at you. May even try to incorporate the stock panel.
Thanks for the suggestion guys!

That's exactly what I was thinking of for my build. What's the thickness of the bed channel and wood?

The channel is 3/8" and very thin walled. The piece of cherry is milled down to 5/16" so it will slide into the channel. Hope that helps you out!

Sure does. I had a 4ft stick of aluminum C channel, 3/8" ID of the channel, in my hands the other day but wasn't sure. Thanks for confirmation.

Glad it helped you out!
Ernie

Nice day today in Oregon, so needed to get some yard work done. So didn't spend much time in the shop. But I did get a little bit done on the bed.

It is just sitting on a board, but is at about the height I'm going to run.

Thanks for looking.
Ernie

Looks awsome Ernie! Looking at that thick piece of wood, I bet you could take a router to the back side of the board and rout out quite a lot of material. Just a thought to cut a little weight out.

Good idea Chris, I will take a look at that.
OK, need some help from you guys. In order to get the bed as low as possible I need to put on some shorter shocks or clearance the bed for the shock towers. I'm going to make custom towers anyway. I could cover the towers and shocks on the top side with scale accessories. This would give me a little more shock travel. Suggestions?
Ernie

Great idea on route out backside of wood, gives little more shock tower room too cantilever shocks or Proline Scaler 90mm shocks with x-rings so they don't leak.
