Nothing special done to the tyres, got a bit of weight in the wheels and have Crawler Innovations dueces wild foams in them. I believe they work better with the stiffer foams, and I like to slow crawl, let it sit there wheel spinning dead slow and steer around until they bight into something, usually works.

I learnt something about crawler tyres today, my new Iroks really sucked, I mean really really bad! Nil grip at my favourite crawl spot, absolutely hopeless and not a chance in hell of making any of my tough lines I use for test and tune sessions.

Installed CI DW rock beast foams because I like em and kept at it, today after god knows how many packs these Iroks started to "switch on" and grip up! There not there yet and cannot make all of my hard lines but there getting close, difference is night and day from when they were new to now.

Still haven't given them a wash in simple green yet.

That's like my vaterra tsl's. I still run my original set from September 2015 and I haven't found a tire yet that'll pull lines better than they do broken in. Or noticeably better that is. I'm trying new tires just to make things interesting. It's hard to give them a good break in when I've got so little time to actually wheel so I end up going back to my trusty tsl's when I'm out with friends so my truck doesn't suck on the climbs.

I've always like the Iroks in the X2SS compound. They hooked up nicely, but they wore way too quickly. Are yours X2 SS?

After Iroks I tried ProLine TSL Super Swampers and never looked back. More grip and more durability with a slight hit on scale factor.

What beadlock wheels are in the photos above?

Yes the Iroks are X2 SS compound.

The wheels are from eBay and are Alientac / GDS racing, 25 mm wide I think. The tyres rub a little on the steering link with the hubs that are supplied with the wheels, so I have ordered the next wider offset hubs from GDS racing, the hubs are not the same bolt pattern as my other eBay wheels.

X2, ime the RC4WD Irok looks great, but Vaterra TSL lasts longer and grips better.

Good to know, so what pattern are the hubs? I like my wheel hubs to interchange as much as possible.

Compared to my black wheels, the holes are about 1mm further out from the centre. There the only 2 sets of beadlocks I own so I don't know which ones are "SLW hub" compatable, maybe neither, that's why I went for the proper GDS hubs so I know they will fit.

I see lotsa people running the alloy upper link riser, but I would think it would put even more load on the 2 screws? I'm not running 3s or a big motor, stock RTR everything, even got the slipper backed off a little.

Hey trick on keeping upper link bracket from breaking is to use to zip ties on either side (around input, cross over and around!)

How I fixed this issue u know bankrupt mods

It's lowered, so maybe that makes it look wider, and the alloy beadlocks are a little wider, that's all.

No problem Nate, I'm happy to report on all things scale crawling around here for everyone's enjoyment.

Wider hubs turned up, get good clearance now between tyre and steering links.
All prepped for next RC4WD Aussie Challenge, this one will be a 2 dayer with a social night run too!

Don't think I will use the Iroks at the challenge, going to stick with my old Scorpios, they are still out performing the Iroks, don't think the few extra scale points will offset winching up things I can usually drive up. Next time maybe.
