Default New Ascender K5 owner

Hello all,

I am sure everyone on this site is tired of seeing new owners of the rtr trucks popping up all the time. So to keep this as short as possible, here goes...
I have little experience with the RC world ( other than cutting and hacking on a nylint jeep crawler years ago). I have owned many 1:1 built trucks over the years and thought this would be a great hobby to try out! Just got my truck today, really excited to try it out. Please bare with me as I learn and try to translate the knowledge of 1:1 to 1:10. Thanks in advance for all the info, I have spent the last several weeks reading up as much as possible on this site.

Oh, and yeah...... I have always been a Toyota guy, even though I own a jeep currently along with a 100 series cruiser. First on the list to do is a 100 series cruiser body, or at least a Toyota of some kind body.........

My first changes are the ones detailed on this site.....
Lower the body, lower the shock setting and cut the body to fit.
I also plan on removing the chrome from the wheels and diff covers, until
I decide on what wheel/tires to run....

Finally got to run my truck for the first time. Had fun and got to see what it would do. First impression was good other than 2 things. The first is the stock swampers tend to hold alot of mud, hopefully that will change when they break in. The second issue is the truck turns much deeper right than left. Checked everything and appears tight. I have seen several ways to set the transmitter zero points , but couldn't get it to go into so called setup mode.

Mine seems to be the servo doesn't turn as far as it could, hoping it's not correctly centered and it's easy to fix?
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in....

Not sure about my knowledge, but have you tried taking the servo arm off, center your trim on your radio, set your tires as close to center as you can and replace your servo arm? Good luck guys!

Thank you for the Idea! I started to try that, but it seems the servo can move as far as needed by twisting the tires by hand... In my mind it was something with the transmitter stop points keeping it from going as far as it should, but will try this just to make sure.
Thanks again for the input!

Sounds like it's def related to limits in the servo/channel if you can manually turn your wheels with no binding issues.

I agree, moves just fine and equal side to side when you do it by hand.

I had time to do the simple beginner mods today. Lowered the body a couple holes, lowered the ride height, cut the spacers for the bumpers to tuck them in some, removed the spacers for the sliders, they now sit inside and slightly below the rockers. Cut the fenders to look more like a 1:1 truck would with this size tires and tried to de-bling the wheels. Used the oven cleaner method but it would not remove the outer sliver of chrome. Guess it is what it is till I get some beedlocks. Excited to hopefully try out the changes tomorrow....

Up next will be a new servo, shocks and metal diff covers!

Ordered up a new servo, bec and steering horn tonight. Next up will be new shocks. I have read all the suggestions from drilling out the stock ones to the kings and vaterra aluminum ones. Still looking at the options out there.......

I will check those out. Really just want complete replacement coils and springs, don't care much for how the stock ones work.

Well, ordered some aluminum diff covers last night. From the research I have done the vaterra aluminum shocks sound like what I want, but can't find them in Stock anywhere....
Next up, I am thinking about slowing the blazer down a little. I think I need the losi los41112, but can anyone confirm this gear will fit the stock motor?

You'll like the Vaterra aluminum shocks! Didn't find the Losi number you gave, stock pinion is 14 teeth, 48 pitch, try a 12T to slow your truck down.
