Im back to stock ones with another spare set of GPM ones in the storage bin

Wow, that many broken? This is my first out of my 3 vaterras.

I've heard the GPM ones are like soft butter. LOL

Are you also running wheel weights? Some have said this will contribute to axle breakage. I'm not sure why, simply spinning mass I guess, but just don't see at these low speeds how that could be. I think it's just getting a wheel bound up and it pops the cup or where it attaches to the axle shaft.

At least I have one spare axle, and a rig or two to rob in the case of an event or something.

God help us if Horizon discontinues all parts for these.

Yeah I’m not sure what’s causing it. I just have amazon aluminum headlocks. Nothing too heavy.

I DO however have GPM (I think it’s them), knuckles and hubs? I bought those assuming wheel hope caused my first break. Then the same axle broke in the newly added knuckles and hub. So I don’t know.

I’ve since narrowed my endpoints a click or two via my GT3C and no breaks recently! And it’s in high speed mode right now. I’ve jumped it, did super donuts, wheelied it, crashed and so far they are holding up.

We’ll see how long. I slapped a 20x on stock 14t with the 3S and 1080wp on punch 5 and no drag and it’s been fun destroying all pavement and yards! Lol.

started painting my son's blazer cab last night.
no pics yet its only got one coat. letting it set before i finish but its looking good! (no wet sanding, its not going to be a show truck by any means!)
but i am using quality stuff. Tamiya primer and paint. your only hint for color is "camo" series ;)
should be able to finish this afternoon.

should i just snap pics of it on the truck or wait another day until i can put details on there? (windows, grill, mirrors, etc.)

Got some gmade dual rates. I love these shocks. Have them on my GOM and they are the only shock Iv had that don’t leak. They are nice and smooth, can’t wait to try them out tomorrow

Those Gmades are great shocks. I have a set of the XD Dual Rates on my K10 and they help with the torque twist. I have a few different sizes on other trucks as well. Never had any leaks (until now probably). A bit of Green Slime on the seals helps.

Are you saying the stock ones are not? Can you confirm different steel?
If so then the VVD's make good sense.

I was disappointed they did not have a 'rebuild kit' for them - pin, pivot, and retainer, with no projection for production or availability. Which puts me off the Origin, although they intimated they had parts for those, but also said they don't break.

Tried out the new g made shocks. They work awesome and don’t leak. I might add to the limiters in the shocks, it still sits a little higher then stock but I didn’t notice it when crawling.

I see you have a travel limiter for the dual-rate springs. Are they stock springs?

I'm curious if you think they are better than the stock shocks - I haven't had trouble with mine other than leaking some over time. I usually just clean them up and refill them. LOL

Yeah springs are stock. It probably wouldn’t hurt to go a little softer but I did notice a difference over stock. Torque twist is pretty much gone probably due to the springs but my truck is quite a bit heavier then stock. You can tune them to your conditions but I kind of like the extra travel in rocks. Climbing hills while under a load there isn’t much bouncing around anymore. I definitely recommend them.

I have the XD version of those shocks on my K10 Ascender. They work really well and I bought a set of softer lower springs for the rear. Torque twist is so much better.

Basically they work the same way as the Rich Trujillo mod on the stock shocks.

So, I got a new crawler, joined a forum, and watched lots of YouTube videos.

There are so many cool builds, with awesome paint jobs, scale interiors, etc.

Overall, I like my ‘72 K10 body with caged rear, but I don’t love it.

I did not like the Vaterra Garage, K&N, Fox, Yukon Gears, and Magnaflow stickers, so I took them off.

I don’t love the yellow, but a new clear body is expensive, and I don’t think I’m up for a repaint, at least not yet. The Freqeskinz look interesting, but are also very expensive, and I’m not sure about the durability.

I’m not wanting to spend any money on cosmetics at this point, since I just bought the truck, battery, and charger. $$$

I at least wanted to make my truck look uniquely mine. So, I put some maple leaf stickers on the doors, which I cut out of a Canadian flag decal. The full flag was a little much.

The sheet the maple leafs were on had some black, so I cut a hood guard. Not sure if I should keep that on or not. Yay, or nay?

Anyway, picture...

Welcome to RCC, Nice choice of rig. Adding black is a good way to tone down the all yellow cab. The piece you added looks fine in the picture. You might consider are painting other things black as well. Possibilities include the wheels, grill , hood , roof of cab... Could just paint on the exterior.

I got the spring from Junfac. GM0020024. GM0020034. GM0020036. There are 3 different rates available.

Best to have a look on their store and get what you want. The lower springs on my XD shocks are 50mm long. Your shocks may have different size.

Thanks for the welcome.

I’ve considered paint on the exterior, but I figure that would get chipped and scratched up really fast.

It would look like this

Edit, here’s video screenshots with a black hood and wheels. The look is not for me, but I like the idea of painting the inside black.
