Default Codyboy Designs "How'd you do that"?

I'm a big advocate for "passing it forward" so I wanted to start a thread showing how we did that! A place to show all the cool things we have done to our Ascenders.
From Codyboy Design I plan on sharing how to build the different parts I put together for you guys.
First up, how I designed and am putting together new rock sliders that incorporate rear link risers.

Here I'm cutting out the mounts from some 1/8" mild steel sheet stock.

These are the two piece sliders/risers I have been using on my K10.
Natedog and Jeepaic are the guys that first suggested incorporating the two into one unit.

If I'm going to build some thing that is going to be replicated I most always build a jig to do it. This is my hole drilling jig. Yep, a part of a ascender frame with a stop soldered in it. I notched it for the riser arm. A perfect way to get the right hole spacing.

I drill a couple holes at the top of the mount for 10-24 screws to screw into. I drill the two holes out for a 10-24 tap and tapped them. These screws are to strengthen the 1/4" stainless steel attachment to the riser plate.

Here I have soldered the 10-24 screws to the riser plate, bent the screws up at a slight angle (this is to start the up swing of the gull wing effect that I want to finish with), and slipped the bent tubing onto the screws, and soldered them all together.

In these two photos you can see the screw heads before I cut them off and another riser plate that just has the screws in it.

Here it is mounted on my K10, notice the upper and lower link are almost parallel to each other. This is one of the factors that helps with the torque twist.

And the K10 with the body on.

Have fun if you decide to try this project yourself! Any questions?

I just wanted to add here that I had a discussion with Todd at DoubleDzRCs before I even started to design these to make sure he was ok with me building the sliders with the risers plates. Although the design is different than his, I didn't want to make these if he had any concerns at all. He didn't so here we are.

I should have some of these put together in a few weeks.
Ernie

PM sent. Interested in a set of sliders but have no where near the tools necessary to build them myself.

It's awesome that you take the time to share your knowledge and processes for the parts you've been manufacturing.

Hey Cary, I haven't been feeling to retired lately!!! But I could say no if I wanted to. The only difference between working and being retired is I get to chose what I do with my time. I should be doing Sliderisers in a couple weeks.

I have seen a few guys asking about the Axial universal mod
(Codyboy Steering). So I thought I would post a few photos.

Over 65 degrees of steering.

The set up on my K10.

Ascender axles on my Northwest Express jeep build.

It is a nice upgrade.

Yes he went. We have been going up for years. This was the 39th year for Motorama.

Cary, do you still need that transfer case? We talked about it, then I kind of forgot about it.

Ok, I need to build a winch bumper for my yellow jeep build, so I thought I would show you how to build a DIY bumper.

I'm starting with a repurposed Goodwill computer table leg.

I laid everything out and started cutting.

I'm kind of letting the photos do the talking.

Here I bent the tabs that I left in to close up the bumper.

Now to the soldering bench to braze things together.

One of my goals with this bumper is keep it up high for good approach angels, so the winch is sitting down inside the bumper. I left the face high enough on the front for a good angel for the winch line.

Now for some Stainless steel 1/4" and 3/16" tubing.
I made the headlight guard out of 1/4" and the stinger is 3/16". The stinger raps under the bumper and is bolted to the frame.

Added some black Hammer paint and drilled for the winch.

View from the top.

The under side.

Winch installed, bumper mounted and ready to wire it up.

And there you have it! Thanks for looking.

Very nice bumper out of ordinary objects, thanks Ernie! I save lots of metal scraps like that, used them so many times to weld something up and often save lots of time fabbing too.

Thanks Nate, I love to repurpose!!!

Here is a pretty simple rear bumper I put together to day.

3/16" and 1'4" rod, and 1/4" tubing. I used the 1/4" tube as a spacer for the
rod and after I soldered it in I put it in the vise and compressed it. Then I matched up and drilled the holes to mount to the frame. Polished everything up and mounted it.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Nate, that is a cool system designed through GCM. It is a body mount and battery tray. Sold at their Shapeway store.

I'm using a GCM chassis made for the China jeep. The only thing on this rig that is ascender is the axles. So no mods to get the body to fit ths chassis.
Sorry

Looks like I've been missing out on a lot. Awesome work as always, Ernie! Not to mention a great thread. Now if I could just get you to buy a Sawback and start cranking out the cool ideas for it. Yes, I have one of those ugly little suckers too lol.
