Default shock e-clips

so I bought an ascender kit.
I started putting it together when I get to the shock part.
I see these e clips that are the size of a sprinkle.
I think to my self one of these are going to get lost so,
I'm hovering over my desk to try to prevent one from flying away.
the first two shocks went together and while attempting shock three,
sure enough a clip shot off while trying to snap in place.
The clip hit me right in the face but I had no luck finding it.
I went online and ordered a pack of 10 VTR236131 but,
when I received them they looked much larger.
I tried to snap one on and they are clearly not right.
I'm not sure what to do, this is the part number the manual shows.

Anyone else have this problem?

The shock shaft should be 3mm diameter but the groove requires a 2mm e-clip. The OD of the e-clip should be approx. 5 mm (about 13/64"). If the e-clips you received are really 3mm e-clips, they are meant for a 4mm shaft and will be 7mm OD (about 9/32").
Don't know how Vaterra measures their e-clips but if they truly have given you 3mm e-clips, they definitely will be too large.
I don't remember who makes them, maybe Traxxas, but I picked up a package of assorted size e-clips at my LHS. Seems to me there were 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm and maybe 3mm e-clips in the package. 20 in all I think and relatively inexpensive.

thanks
what your saying sounds spot on.
a 3mm nut screwed onto the threaded part of the shaft so,
I'm pretty sure the shaft OD is 3mm.

Vaterra also offers a shaft kit which also includes the clips and
in the picture compared with the size of the plastic valve bushings
the clips look like the larger size I received.
I'm not sure I want to spend $20 bucks just to find out those shafts are larger
when I can probably buy different shocks for a few bucks more.

This is the assorted Traxxas pack.

I actually bought it specifically because when assembling the Ascender's shocks earlier this year I had one of those e clips pop off and bounce around - nearly losing it in the process. Ended up finding it under my bed.

The worst part was that after assembling the firat shock, I realized there weren't any extras provided, and that I'd better be extra careful.

Been there and done that a few times...what I do is if there is somebody around have them set a bath towel over your hands and arms once you get ready to snap it in place, that way if it takes off the towel will contain it. I also try to do it up in the kitchen on the floor, better chance of finding it there than on a basement or garage floor. I have done this alone also just get it all set and drag a towel or t-shirt over your hands with your mouth before you attempt to snap it in.
