Just a little update, a couple photos of progress.

I added some 3mm brass inserts to add strength to the transfer case mounting.

New tires and wheels for the old girl!

Hey Chris, check out the 79 ford body in the middle of the photo! Paint job look familiar?

More later today.

You didnt even have to tell me to look... ;)

I was thinking about a honcho proline 79 for "serious business" or taking the kid gloves off.
Will that be going to proline? Would be cool to get a pic together with that!

T case looking stout!

That would be a nice combo. Yes it is going to Proline, and should be available for someone to borrow to comp with if needed!

I lowered the body, so it has a nice stance, (I like anyway).

I detailed the body a little, and should have a driver by the time we get to Apple Valley.

And "Killer" is a good name for her.

It will be brushless with one of my Holmes 2700 stubby pullers for power.

Battery side with it mounted above the sliders.

A shot of the bumper and Lunsford Titanium links.

I'm also bringing a test board for tires and torque twist. It has small simulated rock on one side and flat on the other. The whole board has 3 coats of rubber spray bed liner. It should be fun to test tires, foam set-ups and maybe a little evening climbing competition.

Thanks for looking!
Ernie

Yeah me too, reminds me of another truck i have seen... ;)

Ernie that board is great! Cool idea and im sure it will get a bunch of attention!
And have you noticed the gcm forward motor mount lets too much motor into the cab?
I thought it was because my jconcepts body was on the small side, but now that i see the mount under your proline, it still sticks into the cab so far, a dashboard would be hard to do, even with that stubby motor.
Hurmfff...

Great looking truck with some nice goodies though!
Less than a month to go!

Thanks Chris,
Ya I think I might put a 2-D driver/interior in it. We will see.

Everything looks really nice, but swap those tires around, it's bugging me.

Are the cage and body attached or separate? And how well does the cage flow the body lines of the 79 ford body?

Wayne

Oh yea. Saweet truck. Serious skills.

The body and cage are screwed together, and the body is designed with the ascender in mind. You can check out the above photos, but I think it is a perfect match.

They should be however you like them to be , they are asymmetric by design, therefore my issue will never be resolved. I was just giving you a hard time.

I love how close that bumper hugs the front of the body. Looking forward to seeing these awesome rigs crawl .

Been working a little on my pan hard bar.

I wanted to be sure I had very little, if any side to side defection through the suspension travel.

Perfect, full suspension no deflection and no binding.

So, see any problems?

Took me a sec to realize... thats the rear! Nice. Gives me an idea for my rwd drift build... eventually.
Very cool, creative idea!

Great ingenuity Ernie! Picture from the side of the upper link?

Did I forget to mention that this is the rear panhard bar?

I will get those pics in a little while.

I will post the theory behind the rear panhard in a future post. It is something that Erik at Dlux has come up with.
If it helps with TT I should be able to build some kits.
Ernie

So if you haven't taken the time to read, or haven't been following along with Eriks build your missing out on a new theory for rock crawling.
He is building a very innovative, stepping out of the box design for a sporty comp crawler. He has some interesting thoughts on getting rid of TT. The theory should cross right over into the scale crawler world. That's why I'm taking the time to see if it does apply to the TT problem with the ascender. I've already put about a week into the design and seeing if it would be an easy kit to market. Still need to do some testing, but right now it is looking pretty good.

Here is the link to Erik's build. Dlux has gone off the deep end

The TT theory starts at about post 62!

Nate, here is the photos I think you wanted.

Thanks for looking, and thoughts and input welcome.
Ernie

I can see where a 3 link would help torque twist. I had a rig I set up with 4ws and ran 3 link front and back. This is an excellent idea if you have the panhard going the right way. Definitely an interesting idea. I might have to try it.

It is important to have the front and rear PB working on opposite sides of the chassis and be the same length so the front and rear weight transfer is off setting each other.

That's what I was thinking. Other wise it would only help one way effectively. I may be building my current truck and my sons that way.

Having read Erik's thread and how well the setup works in a comp crawler, I'm excited to see how it works for the Ascender.

I have only one suggestion: test the clearance on the rear panhard mount with another set of wheels (something with a rear beadlock ring perhaps). The SSD wheels on there now have a ton of rear clearance compared to most 1.9 wheels, fitting the panhard mount so far out on the axle may be an issue with a wheel that doesn't have so much clearance.

Keep up the good work!
