Exacto saw blade? I'm not familiar with them but I just googled them and they look fairly short and like they might bend/deflect, I'm not sure I'd feel too confident using it. I believe Natedog just used a regular hand saw likely a fine tooth.
I like to use the Japanese saws which are very thin and have very fine teeth, these bend easily too but the length would make me feel better. But I should also say I dont have any experience cutting down hardbodies.

Hard to beat thread for precision but it takes infinite patience...

Masking tape on either side of the kerf helps if you use a blade.

For a truck, I want this:

Sorry, SHINCHU!!!

For interrupting your thread AGAIN!

Can't wait to see how BOTH of your upcoming builds go...

Yeah she has a hobby table on the opposite side of the garage and she would be out there too if it wasnt over 100. She uses my old bench in the meantime. The kitchen table lol

So... I did a thing...

Casey they exacto saw worked GREAT!!! I found a whole pack of them in one of my hobby toolboxes. They flex a little but if you just saw with "scale" motion its good hahaha

Annnnd...

Badabing! Test fit numero dos!

Ernie if you are seeing this, are you sure you didnt make those sliders for a Chevy?!?! Haha they fit great!
And I have a fancy idea for mounts too

I think I can fit a piece of paper between the motor and firewall...

And this is just a good excuse to use my jack stands ;)

gotta pawn off all the rear parts and both bumpers so we can buy his new rear cage. as i was told, the ascender cage doesn't line up and i don't see a way to fix it.

in the meantime i need to stop at the train store for styrene and see about getting some lexan sheet for the back window. start priming and sanding. for the mounts, you can just barely see through the sliders its a straight shot to the stock mounting holes under the doors. i got a good ideer!

and yes, we are both excited as all hell!

Xacto saw blades are good, but bed bobbing was better with mitre box saw (I bought saw only) because it spanned the entire truck making straight even cuts much easier. If you have a body line or mold seam to follow it’s not as critical. Xacto saw blade doesn’t flex much if you’re careful and remove less material. I need one of those little Suzuki trucks! Blazer cut cab to pickup looks great!

Who the heck mounts bumpers to the body?
Used my scale ascetalyne torch aka exacto saw again to lop these suckers off.

And finally went to the train shop and picked up some supplies...
Still gotta cut the square panels in for scale correctness but its a start.

Washed clean with soap and warm water, and started to file and sand all the mold lines off. Looking good so far. This hard body thing... I like it!!!

Squadron green putty...

And while I'm waiting for the tamiya primer to dry, used the scale sawzall again to remove a little front fender for clearance. Rounded the edges to match factory lines. You can hardly tell I took off a good half inch under the blinker!

Light coat dried, then hit a heavy coat.
More sanding and priming after this...

Maybe its the fumes and dust from squadron putty and tamiya primer but...
I never noticed the awesome things happening on the smooth side of 3M sandpaper?!?!
Racial harmony and the coolest monkey I have ever seen.

Still not as smooth as I want, but thats 2 rounds of primer, sand, primer. Gotta get going on some projects around the house so here is how it looks for now...

Eye protection, ear protection, respirator mask...

Equals monkey?

LOLz...

On a serious note - I forgot about eye protection (well, frankly I don't own any, but I wear glasses) and when cutting some bolts to a shorter length with my Dremel a month or so ago - the sparks melted tiny dots and dashes all over my ONLY set of prescription lenses!

I certainly wasn't expecting that!

So, I had to go order a new set today.

Well, one lens already was badly scratched and my progressive lens prescription was really needing an update too...

But, I coulda lasted another 6 months on the existing set if not for that Dremel incident.

Be safe out there, kids!

(BTW - you can easily buy a new crawler for what a new prescription and a new set of typical progressive lens eyeglasses cost today!)
