| New K5 Build, Exciting for me boring for most.
New to the Ascender forum (long time lurker) I picked up this kit when they went discontinued and were a bargain that was too hard to pass up. I've been collecting parts and reading all the great threads from some great folks here for quite awhile. I've always wanted one being a Chevy guy and having a buddy that runs one but I got the other brand in the back first. My goal is to build a fun trail rig nothing comp ready or anything like that. I won't bore you with all the small details just shots of it and blurbs as progress happens or decisions are made ie the BPC tray or the Vaterra tray conversion kit (both on hand) as I am not that great at threads let alone a build one. A quick run down of parts: Tekin 35 turn Hobbywing 1080 Tactic TTX300 RC4WD 6 Lug Wagon wheels Proline Krawler G8 Proline Single stage foams Vaterra Adjustable Coilover Shocks SSD sliders SSD Black diff covers (not a chrome guy) Savox 0231 for now RC4WD Tough armor front bumper (SSD is calling my name though) RC4WD 8274 Winch BPC battery tray or Vaterra conversio And a few other odds and ends Cheers Jason Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

Nice list of parts. This should turn out to be a great truck. And you have the best body IMO. I will say I think the Vaterra shocks suck. Those are the only Vaterra part I've ever been disappointed with. Definitely limit them inside if you plan to keep them. They are far too long. |

A good start there with some nice parts. Enjoy the build, it's never boring seeing another one.

Got a little done this weekend. Not gonna lie this set of tires and wheels questioned my patience, I was wondering if I was gonna ever get them mounted. In the end I am pleased with the package except mabye for my foam choice as they seem sorta stiff. (Proline Single Stage) I got them because it is hard to avoid water here, at least that's what I tell myself. As for the frame build I came to stand still because I started to look at the length of all the wiring as compared to my SCXii. I got the SSD sliders so I might try installing all of my electronics on the base of them by using a different box for the receiver. Who knows, I'll spend some time researching then come up with a game plan. But for now it's time to rest for tomorrow because its my birthday and I'm going for a crawl/hike with some locals to enjoy the afternoon. Thanks for looking, I'll try to work on my pics as you can see I am using a lipo bag for a background and who knows maybe next time I'll throw a pic of the cat up lol. Not really progress, but this is my basic idea for the electronics. A shout out to all you veterans of this platform. Being new the Ascender platform I am wondering if there is a reason or 2 this is not a good idea. Remembering this is not a comp truck, so losing a little performance is not the end of the world. So please flame away. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

A little progress after I had to rob and order another servo as my SCX10ii went down a big hill on a Sunday outing. I gave up on moving the electronics and decided to go the basic route as I have been fixing every other rc that seems to break. So down the road maybe. Next is the shock mod and hooking up the winch. I am not in too much of a hurry to finish because it is too cold to paint in my garage right now. Winter now decides to show up. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

Finally laid some paint down this weekend, and intalled some tail lamps. I plan to put lights in eventually but I have been distracted with my X-MAXX I got recently, hence the delay in paint and finishing this. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

Nice list of parts, X-Maxx is super distracting and fun, hard to blame you for that! Components down the centerline of the chassis should in theory be more stable, but either will work and I've had very capable crawlers setup both ways. Here kitty kitty, where's the picture of your helper? |

Nice! I have a K5 kit that I’ve been sitting on for a while. Not sure when I’ll get to it.
