Default MST cfx trans in Ascender?

Will the MST cfx transmission work with Ascender axle gearing? Need to get a forward motor mount in my Ascender scale build, and have the possibility to buy a cheap cfx transmission.

That really depends on your definition of working together. The MST front motor kit can accomodate gearing from 13.22:1 to 19.45:1 depending on the pinion gear you install, so multiplied by the Ascender's axle gearing of 1.85, you could have anywhere from about 24:1 down to about 36:1 total gear reduction. I want to say that the Ascender's out-of-the-box total reduction is about 46:1? Either way, the CFX trans would be a bit quicker, but that might be perfectly acceptable depending on your desired use.

I'm currently working on adapting the same MST trans with Sawback axles (which also have pretty tall gearing like the Ascender.) It's a neat transmission, but may not get you geared low enough for a dedicated crawler... but you could always add a second transfercase!

Thanks. That’s my tought to. I think the gearing would be on the highside for a scalecrawler.

If your ratios are correct for the mst transmission, you should be just fine. Stock ascender transmission ratio is 4.05:1. Stock spur is 88t with a 14t pinion. That all adds up to 25.45:1 ratio.

You forgot to factor in the axle ratio... 25.45 x 1.85 = 47.08:1

I honestly think that 36:1 (lowest gearing you can get with cfx trans) could work just fine so long as you're not running too quick of a motor (I use a 27t 550, roughly equivalent to the Ascender's stock 35t 540) or extremely tall tires. That's about the same gearing as a stock TRX4 Sport comes with, many complain that it's too high, but it still crawls okay, and going with a tad slower motor will bring the low speed control into a useable realm.

Damn, missed that detail in their post.
