Default Twin Hammers Shift Servo Setup Instructions from Horizon

SOURCE: Horizon Hobby Product Support

Attached is the needed document for installing the shifting servo and setting the servo.

1. Remove the servo horn and Power the vehicle on.

2. On the transmitter, turn both AUX-L and AUX –H to 0 (Counter clockwise to full stop)

3. Center the shifter shaft on the transmission so that there is approximately a 3 to 3.5mm gap between the shifter arm and transmission case.

4. Re-attach the servo horn to the servo while holding the shifter in the center position (3 to 3.5mm gap)

5. Switch to high gear on TX.

6. Adjust the AUX-L setting up until the servo moves leaving approximately a 1mm gap between the shifter arm and transmission case *NOTE: You may need to roll the vehicle to make sure the cogs on the gears are fully engaged. Also, ensure that the linkage moves freely when engaged in in gear. To check this, give a little “blip” of throttle and then twist the linkage to ensure it is free moving on the ball studs.

7. Switch to Low gear on TX.
8. Adjust the AUX-H setting up until the servo arm stops leaving approximately a 6-6.5mm gap between the shifter arm and transmission case. *NOTE: You may need to roll the vehicle to make sure the cogs on the gears are fully engaged. Also, ensure that the linkage moves freely when engaged in in gear. To check this, give a little “blip” of throttle and then twist the linkage to ensure it is free moving on the ball studs.

Here is a video with Rich explaining how to setup the shifting servo.

I installed a factory replacement shift servo yesterday. My epas look exactly like the epas on the pictured transmitter. So we will see how long it lasts.

Vaterra needs to show this to the factory workers.... My steering servo was also WAY off center.

It may still fail. Mine did the other night even with the EPAs set correctly.
It may not be an EPA issue but a servo issue.
I need to call and get my replacement,.....then sell it so I can get a servo that works.

You mean most advanced RTR vehicle. IMO any RC with a two speed transmission or dig unit that uses mini sized servo's are for experienced users. I think Vaterra should have released two versions of the Twin Hammers, one for someone who is new to RC with the shift linkage locked into either 1st or 2nd gear and then when they feel they are ready to install the shift servo (standard size) they can upgrade. And the second version the same as the current Twin Hammers only with a standard size shift servo and not the mini. I think that would have eliminated a lot of frustration for the newbs to RC.

Look at Traxxas vehicles with two speeds (Emaxx), they use standard size servos for shifting and they are damn near idiot proof.

How many of you guys are tearing apart the transmission and putting lube on the gears? And then running your rig and burning up the shift servo quickly?

My shift servo is still going strong. I mostly leave it in 2nd but occasionally shift to 1st just to see if it's still working haha. Even if mine fries it's not a big deal to me because I was planning on replacing the electronics before I even bought it. So who cares. That's the risk you willingly take when you buy a BRAND new product.

Don't like the risk?... Wait till the v2 comes out with fixes to the first found bugs and weak spots.

I own 25 + rc vehicles from wraiths to scx10s, tf2s... which is a 2 speed, high lift... which is a 3 speed plus I race sct 2 or 3 times a week..... so not that you were calling me a newb but IMO out of all the rtr vehicles I have purchased, even brand new products, this is the one I am least impressed with and I know when the kit comes out I will buy that as well, along with other vaterra products. Im upgrading electronics anyway so im just giving out my opinion..... im sure it will be awesome once all the bugs are worked out, im going to try and make it idiot proof lol.

I guess I should have actually done this but I was too excited when I got it! Atleast I can replace it with something better without trouble.

My TH showed up saturday. I took cage off, put it in on my workbench with wheels off ground and used badgers above method before I even turned the thing on and the shift servo works perfectly. Ran 3 packs through it bashing in yard shifting from low to high often just cause it was fun to go fast (my creeper is a dedicated crawler so its very slow compared).

Thanks for posting these instructions guys!
