I agree. Preferably screws that are a lot harder than the stock screws. I'm starting to round out a few smaller screws.

Horizon Hobbies has one on their website if you search Vaterra Twin Hammers. Problem is, it has showed out of stock since it was on there...as if they haven't actually gotten them in yet. Been meaning to call them and ask if they have an ETA, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

remember, "stainless" (CRES) is waaay weaker than steel !
If you are stripping the heads it may be your driver is a POS,
try others till you find one that fits better. The stock they are made from
varies in size as to fasteners

True in many situations, however the hardware in the twin hammers is total garbage and definitely not plain steel. It's like they used recycled pop cans and twigs from around the factory as filler.

Don't worry. I'm using proper tools when I'm working on my buggy. I've been in the construction industry for 20 years, so maybe my grip may be a little stronger than others. All I know is my 'tight' and other peoples 'tight' are a lot different. I pretty much use locktite on everything because I never know how tight I can make some screws go into plastic before they just strip out either the plastic they are going into or themselves.

Oh, and with case hardened hardware make some case hardened parts to upgrade the plastics!

What specifically makes you say it is total garbage? I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just wondering what attribute is sub standard.

I'm just starting my first Horizon "experience" (And so far it is not going well in terms of quality)

You have to understand that proper torque levels on a 2mm screw are TINY and those going into plastic are even less. Failure due to overtorque not the fault of the fastener. ever. Models have components made of plastics for very good reasons, not just because they are "cheap"

The material is far too soft. Specifically the hardware that holds the cage together.

Makes me loathe the thought of working on it.

So you have had the threads of the fasteners strip in the screws that hold the cage togeather (and thread into plastic)?
If so, I agree, that is unheard of (till now anyway) Or if not I apologize for not understanding -

Lots of stripping and one broken head while removing it from the cage. The hardware is my biggest complaint about the truck, followed closely by the steering rack.

Other than that though... it's lots of fun.

Do you have access to 2.5mm hardware through your supplier? Or would you have to buy to large a quantity?

I see mcmaster stocks all the sizes needed atleast for the cage, but quantities are enough for 3-4 rigs per size

Agreed

Also some of the screws are far to long

I have to say that I haven't really looked into it. I would personally have to buy a huge amount to make the kits but I'm not really sure it would sell well enough to do it. It's a pretty odd size in the crawler world, I guess it's more common in the 1/16th scale stuff I'm told.

I know I would be down for a kit. Like you, I hate working on the thing because of the hardware. Also, I've held back on ordering from Mcmaster because of the quantity.

Even if you couldnt offer them at a steal like you do the standard kits, I think they would still sell. Nobody offers them and everybody with a TH needs them.

I am down for a hardware kit as well. I asked about the hardware a month or so ago on here and didn't get a single reply. I would love to see a full or at least partial kit!!

Has anyone made a list of sizes?
I know there are 2.5 x 5s and 2.5 x 20 (on the cage)
The exploded view they give you is HORRIBLE !!!
personally, all this makes me appreciate Traxxas which is the opposite of what I had hoped for

2.5 x 20 @ MMC is 25 for 9 bux made of 151 KSI steel
A Main is 7.38 for 20 (same size) made of god knows what
