Default My Twin Hammer up grades.

This is my first time posting a build on RCC so be nice to me! I have been working on some upgrades that have been talked about in some other threads.
I have built a couple tube roll bar cages for my hammer, the first I sold to a friend before I even had it completly finished, the other I finished this week. I have done a B4.1 rear arm conversion for the front, and did the the traxxas 4x4-MIP cvd conversion. If anyone is interested I will try to figure out how to post photos of step by step of these.

Yes, please!

BTW, I'm sure it's obvious to some, but could you please explain why B4.1 rear, and not B44.1 front?

Two reasons, I had to remove material from the hinge pin carriers and the rear arms had alittle more meat left when I got them to size to fit. The other reason is the rear arms have a kick up for the outer hinge pin which gave me more room for the MIP CVDs. Also, I don't have a B44.1, so I worked with what I had.

I know personally that the B44 front arms are fragile as I use to race one. I personally would not use them as I would be afraid of breaking them...

I wonder if we have ever crossed paths before out crawling or at CGRC... Are you on Facebook? If so, are you on the Oregon RC Addicts, Oregon RC bashers or Oregon RC Talk? There is a few other groups but they are mostly small ones...

Here is pic of where I did the trimming. I'm not going to give measurments, you can use your TH arm as a guide.

This kind of shows the difference in length of B4.1 arm.

this is what it looks like on the TH with the stock set-up.

Also had to enlarge the inner hinge pin holes.

I did race at CGRC this winter, just remember the oldest grey haired guy there named Ernie, ran a green and yellow B4.2!

Great info! Have you figured out a way to use the stock suspension and connect the little bellcrank links to the arms?

I know of a couple gray haired guys there. I stopped racing just before the last I5 series rave they had there...I got burnt out and didn't like the way the track was going, everybody wanting to go high bite and use traction compound....I don't want to spend the $$$ to blow on tires every other race... I race a solid blue mid motor Durango DEX210.

Anyways, what did you use/do to make the MIPs work on the front? I'm curious to see this rig and how its been put together...

I did some work on the lathe and took them up to Lunsford Racing for Kelly to weld. Here is what I did, (I know it has already been done in other threads).

These are what I bought.

This is what they looked like when I got done on the lathe.
After Kelly welded them.

And in the truck. photo IMG_1037.jpg

so you used b4.1 rear arms, trimmed
TH carriers and Traxxas MIP CVDs from... slash 4x4? They fit right in the carriers and are the correct width?
So far this seems pretty cool to my eyes! Wonder if RPM makes an arm set for the b4.1

I think I was working on the last post when you sent this. As you can see I used the TH axles and welded the ball end to the MIP CVD. Hope the photos answer your question.
I was wondering the same thing, then we could use the B4.1 axle carrier.

So you opened up the end of the MIP axle (splined end) to accept the TH ball/shaft and brazed it in place? I'm guessing it then is self aligning.

How did you get the inboard (big ball) end squared up in the out drive?

Kind of the same thing here, I trimmed the dogdone end of the out drive down about 3/8" and then cut and turned down the ball end of the MIP shaft to just fit inside of the out drive where the dogbone fit. And it wasn't brazed, we thought brazing and regular wire would get to hot and change the temper of the CVDs so Kelly used a brass rod so we could keep the temp down. Hope that makes since to you! (I'm not a welder)!!

Nice job! I just ordered a Smith mini torch - this will make a great first use. I have a TIG machine but I'm not that good with small diameters. brazing would be perfect
