Default motor recommendations: 45t, 35t, 30t?

i have a couple options. i do more slow trailing/crawling than high speed stuff. the stock 15t was too fast and didn't have enough low end for the light crawling i want to do. swapped in my 45t from my 2.2sporty. good low end crawling but a little too slow.

so, i have a possible lead on both a 30t and and a 35t. assuming they are both nice motors (handwound from vendors like brood or holmes) would there be a noticeable performance difference between the two? would there be enough of a speed difference to the 45t to justify a change.

i'm leaning towards the 30t but wanted some other opinions.

I sent Holmes hobbies a question about this. I was wanting to run 3s lipo and he recommend the 27t since the 13t is not 3s capatiable. He said it should be perfect.
I have run a 27t axial motor in 3s and I liked it a lot. I thought it was a little slow but that was before I realized the stok gearing was 78/28. I had bought mine used and I was running 78/20. I've been toying with the idea of going back to a brushed 27t at the correct gearing.
Hope this helps.

I use a sensored 10.5t brushless. I can crawl at nearly zero throttle just great.

If I had a brushless esc I would look into that as an option but I'm sticking with brushed motors. Thanks.

Based on this it sounds like the 30t would be better.

Never had one of those to compare it to.

Most guys seem to be cranking up the twin hammer for high speed. I'm trying to get the crawling power amped up while still have a little speed. Tough combo to land on. If I had deeper pockets I would just buy a couple motors and try different combos.

I've really been trying to do "the best of both worlds" thing like it was designed.
Just to give you an idea see if you can find some you tube videos of a stock rtr honcho. They are very capable in stock form. Then to put it is some perspective, the twin hammer on low gear with stock 78/28 gearing is just about the same final gear ratio as a stock scx10. So if motors are the same the scx10 and th (in low gear) are the same speed. But the th has a high gear so you will have the option of higher speeds.

If this is old news to you just tell me to shut up.

I'm just pointing this out because I have never been in a situation with my scx10 where it wasn't going slow enough for me. At one point I did put a 35t motor to try and get more toque. I did not like the loss of wheel speed. I actually went back to a 27t and geared down a few teeth which was faster, and felt more torquey than the 35t.

I appreciate the input. Based on this and the options I have I decided the 30t is the one for me. We'll see how I like it.

The tekin redline 13.5 slowed my TH down a bit from stock but I liked it. In second gear it was all I needed and still was controllable. 1st gear crawling was awesome.
Couple 3 videos in my old dusty thread. All with 13.5 motor. Gearing is listed.
Szczerba's with Terra-X Videos

NM. I see you settled on the 30t brushed.

I really like my 25t Holmes hand wound. Plenty of grunt in 1st, nice speed in 2nd. The 30t should work just fine, you will be able to play with the gearing more.
I get great run times on a 2200mah 3s, right around 1-1.25hrs, and it runs really cool.

that would be plenty of run time for me. right now i have 2000mah 2s packs and a 4300mah 2s so that will work until i can set up to a 3s pack.

given the 45t wasn't bad but a little slow i'm thinking the 30t will have me covered.

I put a stock 27turn Tamiya Johnson 540 motor in mine with the stock gearing and it seems ok.

I have some videos of it in my 3 video review search shenlonco on you tube.
