Just ordered my TH through the hobbyshop i work at and the order already went in. Oh well. I'll be needing a set of those body panels though. No faux lights!

yeah I'm pissed. i would have MUCH rather had a kit... I waited as long as I could before I bought one, and 6 months later they do a kit. Oh well.

It'll definitely be a nice change from the RTR. It looks like there are a good bit of upgrades from the RTR too.

I guess this means that the TH is not going the way of the Kalihari/Kemora.

Too early to tell. I would love Vaterra a little more if they managed to make a 2.2 type buggy like the Yeti and designed it with a proper long travel suspension.

Or maybe a 4WD offroad rig that was buggy-like while still keeping the scale appearance and NOT based off of a darn Jeep.

This kit version of the TH is quite late to the party, and this section of RC will continue to grow for the next several years. The TH was the first, but without upgrades or new models, it will certainly not be the best.

I agree the kit is late I would of bought a kit instead of the RTR no question. But I think kit people are becoming the minority.

Without upgrades? what are you looking for I think the truck is covered now in upgrade parts by either Vaterra or the aftermarket. It did take awhile

On new models, I do not know about everyone else but I do not really care too much about the same truck rereleased 5 times with a different body, tires/wheels and maybe new anodizing color and then called a special edition.

I make my own special editions

TH kit came in I had interest in the car but never got it since it was only available in RTR form. Not sure what took them so long. The essence of RC is in the kit building process imo.
Anyway, started the build and one little gripe... those 1mm hex screws. This isn't a 1/18th scale car so I don't see why you need such small screws. Good thing there's only a handful of them (so far).
An allen wrench(1mm) never felt so valuable in my life lol
The box was surprisingly small, and the manual is probably one of the nicest I've seen.
Post up if you have any questions.

REALLY liking those tires. How tall are they? They look quite a bit bigger than the racelines on the RTR though it could be my imagination.

would those 1mm hex screws be easily replaced with other screws or are they too small?

I'd be interested to know if the new tires are compatible with other brand beadlocks. I tried fitting the old Race Claws to a set of RC4WD Racelines with no joy, the bead was too thick! Also what's the compound like?

Thanks

The tire feels pretty soft. Not sure how much softer from the RTR one though. The dual stage foam makes the tread area soft, but keeps a firmer sidewall. Overall it is firmer than the 2.2 rip saws that came on the Wraith kit. The tire is 116mm across and 42mm at the widest point. The bead was about 4mm wide. Not sure on the compatibility with other wheels though.

Not much you can do with the 1mm screw areas. but not too many so no worries imo.

as of now how easy would you say that the kit is to build? better or worse than axial?

I think the kit quality is on par with axial. Vaterra may sound like an off brand, but owned by horizon, so consider it Losi quality. I'm surprised at how solid and well thought out the car is, but there are some areas you can hand fit, like the front suspension area. Some parts were a bit tight, so I sanded it so the suspension moves freely. The RTR probably didn't go through measures like this, so you might want to check yours if you have it.

One thing I don't like is how easily the air in the front shocks effects the dampening. This is probably because they are laid down. I can see why people change it to upright positions. Not that bad of an issue for just playing around with it.

Almost finished. Still thinking on what electronics to put in.

Looking good. As for motor ESC, if waterproof isn't an must find a sensored brushless system. Even a cheap one. So worth it.

EBay has been good to me, get yourself a cheap brushless set up of spend 100 for a castle system. I think even the 4600 kv motor would do alright.

X2, thanks for the info on the tires. Same compound as the RTR Raceclaws per a Horizon rep.
