We've been through all this on Facebook. The 1/12 has more than just the gearbox that is different.

Edit: I just compared the measurements. They are so far from being close to the same size.

i was going to get the TH aluminum ones, but now I'll just save my money.

So the Aluminum ones came in.. the fit no problem!
I even came up with a funny name now.. since its a Vaterra China Hammers..
why not call it.. VA-China
Austin Powers would say: Come again?

Yeah, it's way smaller than a normal TH. Beings it's not a direct copy of the TH, and is more of a mini, I have been really looking at this little guy. Other than the transmission setup (high ratio, will suuuck for crawler with small 380 sized motors), the build quality looks to be on par with other mini crawler type rigs. The Losi MRC, Exceed Maxstone 16, Redcat Everest 16, etc... If you look through the spare parts you can see what look to be 5mm diameter rear shafts and what look to be sintered iron gears (edit: nope, they're cast pot metal or whatever) that seem REEAAALLY close in design and construction to the Exceed mini gears (way better than the what Losi cursed the MRC with...).

This may very well be something I pick up to experiment with, as well as entertain the kids. How can they dislike a mini version of my car? I can see already that a trans swap and brushless conversion would be first on the list of mods. I've got a full billet Mini T trans (higher ratio than MRC, lower than the included trans), a pile of MRC transmissions, and a couple Novak sensored Mini Mongoose setups just begging to land in something like this.

Y'all are making me think now. Like I need any more projects...

Has anyone seen the actual scaler that they sell? I'm thinking of picking one of those up since we seem to no longer be able to get the th clone.

Got my goodies in, all a direct fit. Just need to figure out how to attach the shocks to the trailing arms since they aren't threaded.

I want that gcm front shock setup next. The torque twist is pretty damn bad, so the rear truss might have to come with it. Then iries steering setup.

What do you run in the diffs?

i d run 5000 or 7000 weight in there.. i m scared to open it up.. im debating on what to do for the radio/esc triple deal..
Looking at getting a Spektrum radio like what they sell... they are dime a dozen.
i have some non sensored motors + esc laying around..dont want a crawler per say but more of KOH buggy.. have some slow savox servo's too.. and a metal geared redcat servo laying around.

The GCM mount will be my next "big" item i want to get for this rig..
relocated the battery to under the hood..
Shocks up right.. remove the spare tire and relocate it inside the cab..

i wanna see your rig set up with the boom racing stuff

Still trying to figure out the rear shock setup since the trailing arm isn't threaded. Only two sizes of bolts, one just a hair too short and the other like 6mm too long, and I hate cutting these little suckers.

I still have quite a bit I want to do. But we'll see how much every gets done. The stock electronic setup honestly isn't too bad for the price. Pretty damn torquey and decent speed.

I took off the rear diff cover and it's dry. Figured that wasn't good so threw a little bit of red moly grease in there. Haven't touched the front yet. Scared to take anymore screws out as a lot of them take the plastic threading with them.

The boom racing arm is actually very similar, just nowhere near that amount of hardware. That actually seems like way too much hardware.

I just noticed the rear shock tower I got is also not threaded. It's not boom racing though, gcm or gcp or something like that.

Here's a couple chitty pics.

um, yeah. Sorry about that. I read the overall length as the wheelbase.
