yeah they put glue or something down to prevent water from going in the electronics.. super hard to undo the case..
i have to keep it in tack until i find a rx to bind to it.

i got the transmission gears in, mounted an axial servo mount on the top of the original mount so now i can run regular size servo's.
and i got it mounted to the chassis.. reassembled the drive shafts to the trans.
Im going with a castle 4600kv with a SW3 esc i had laying around. I'll need to order a BEC for the savox servo. I have a 0231 that i had to fix the wires on as steering.
Next paycheck im getting the GCM plate so i dont have to worry about the battery mount or front shocks on the flimsy plate.

i like the construction of the blue monkey plate instead of the GCM plate.. Blue monkey looks beefier

I'm gonna get the one that looks like actual hoops. Until then I probably won't touch the hammers too much. Sounds like crap driving around so I need to strip it down and lube up the front diff. Figured I'd do it all at once so I don't strip out any more holes than needed.

Edit: turns out I'm dumb. Figured out part of it.

Also, after I screw the case back together the diff doesn't spin smoothly. Any ideas? Anything simple I'm missing?

I ordered the K949 which is the TH clone. I have just recieved a shipping notification and tracking number, so it's on its way. I don't think they'll be around much longer; they have been removed on WL toys site and RC Militia on YouTube was going to review one on his channel however there has been no follow up and all comments have been closed on the unboxing video. I reckon Vaterra's lawyers have been busy.

Well mine arrived yesterday and I must say I'm impressed other than the steering servo stripping after 10 minutes. I've repaired that this morning using some gears from an old acoms servo. The only thing is I turned it on this morning and the servos are just going crazy. I guess the radio has lost its bind. I'm new to this 2.4 stuff, can someone describe the binding procedure for me, it's not in the manual. Also has anyone discovered a receiver that works yet? Thanks in advance.

Hello to all, I've been reading this from the beginning and I'm interested in this crawler. Never had an RC for years and even then only as a toy.
I really like the k949 but I'm mostly concerned about spare parts. Is there any place that sells spares with international shipping (like china sites)?
If not official, maybe interchangeable from VTH?

if you get the WL Toys K949, and not one of the other clones, all of the Vaterra parts will fit on the K949.

how exactly did you replace the servo? isn't the stock a 5 wire servo?

I didn't replace the servo, I repaired it using some gears from an old servo. Yes it is a 5 wire servo. Still haven't been able to re bind the radio. I am going to have another bash later if not it'll be new electronics all round. I was going to do this anyway but was hoping to run it whilst I got the bits together. Oh well it will still come in at less than £200.

The wl k949 isn't a clone or copy. As with most major companies all of the rc's are made in China. Vaterra just had the right to sell it first for a certain amount of time. Since that time is up other companies can come in and change the parts to their specification and sell it now. That is why everything fits and even the box it comes in looks exactly the same just with a different name. If you can find the manufacture you can order one to your specs too but it would have to be in bulk.


This happens all the time and not just in the rc industry.
