This winter, I plan on building a TH kit for the spring season. The only problem I have is choosing the right motor. Since I need a sensored setup, with a closed can motor for waterproofing it, the choices are limited. I have a ROC412 in my Vaterra K-5, that I got used, but it's way too pricey for me (200$CDN) My choice would be a Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster Sport 3300kv.. (±100$CDN) What are your opinion...? Is 3300kv is a good setup for a TH? What ESC should I paired with it? 60 or 80 amps? |

IMO there's no need for a fully closed can. You can simply waterproof the sensorboard of the motor because a sensorless motor can be submerged as it is . I can recommend the Novak Ballistic crawler motors. They come in 13.5, 21.5 and 18.5 turns I believe. These motors can be bought for under $100. I had my sensorboard waterproofed with CorrosionX and only after a lot of submerging it started glitching, it just dried and works like new now! If you can get conformal coating you can easily waterproof the sensorboard. I have no experience with that yet but if you're interested, look it up on YT! By the way, the lower KV motor's draw few amps in comparison to low turn racing motors. What kind of speed did you have in mind? Last edited by _RCMechanic_; 10-03-2015 at 07:18 AM. |

I bought a leopard sensored brushless motor 3300kv 4 pole motor for under $50 shipped. Plenty of good deals on ebay. For esc I bought a Castle max pro. Joe |

I really liked the 3300 trm sport on 3s in the twin hammers. Perfect kv, plenty of wheelspeed /torque and runs cool. The twin hammer is best suited for a 3000kv-ish 14mm rotor 2 pole motor imo. It's too easy to break parts with similar speed 4 pole, and 2200kv is too slow.
