I really like the "Rock Gardens". That would be nice to have right outside the house. I need to talk to the wife about sprucing up the yard.
Hey Bud, Sounds like your feeling better. No, Herbie is getting his engine rewired and spruced up a little. Those Photos are 3 or 4 years old, that is my Losi comp crawler. I have always like bug bodies. If you need some help with your sprucing up we could stop by on our cross country trip this fall and give you a hand!
Ernie,

Speaking of feeling like a dink. My GoPro was in the car the hole time we were there. With you not being able to run you could of filmed and we could of had some footage.
There is always next time. Maybe we can get Brian to come down the hill from Bend and we could chew up some rock! I put a new motor plate on my ascender so when I get some spur gears it will be ready to crawl.
It would have been fun to get footage of your Hammer.
Ernie,

Thanks for the kind words!!

Here are a few little updates.
The engine need a paint job and wiring so spent awhile detailing.

I used telephone wire for the plug wires and a small shrink tubes for the plug boots.

Also added a boat side skid plate.

Next is to figure out how and where put the servo.
Thanks for looking.

Ernie,

I am feeling much better, thank you.

That engine looks amazing. Nice job!

If you are going to be close enough come on by. You are welcome here anytime. If it's in june, try to make the RC4WD scale challenge in Disney Oklahoma. Disney is always a trip worth taking.

Time for a little up date, if your not getting to tired of all the photos. Made a cage for the motor and some light buckets for the rear.

After sitting and staring at this thing for an hour I figured out how and where to mount servo. I also built taller front shock mounts so I can get more up travel.

Goofy thinks he is going to get to drive the Thug Bug!

A few shots out on my back yard course.

Will probably break it down tomorrow and add a rear sway bar mount and get it ready for paint. I'm thinking a red/orange cage and maybe grey metallic for the body????? Thanks for looking.

Looking great Ernie.

I have one question if you don't mind.
The perforated sheet metal in this pic. What size are the holes, and where did you get it?

I have been looking for the smallest perforated sheet imaginable for my rigs body panels (to match the 1:1 it's based on).

Of coarse I don't mind! But I don't think the answer is going to help you. It is a Goodwill find! I find that Goodwill is a builders best friend. But I'm really into repurposing. Are you needing perforated or will a grate pattern work. I found a neat pattern the other day that is kind of cool. I could post a pick if you want, I have more than enough for your panels.

Ernie,
It has to be perforated. And small enough holes to look scale. If I can't find small enough holes I'd just use flat sheet.
I found some .020 hole x 20% no hole from McMaster, but I'm not sure what that looks like. without seeing it in hand I'm not sure it will work. I don't want to waste 60 bucks to find out. I'll figure something out.
Thank you sir.

Made it up to Lunsford Racing yesterday to bead blast Herbies cage/chassis and pick up some titanium turnbuckles for the steering. So......... spent today prepping and painting. I use High temp motor paint on my painted metal parts and then bake it in my Bar-B-Que at 300 degrees for 30 min and let it cool and repeat for the second coat.

All done with the Paint & Bake!

These are the colors I'm looking at for the body, I'll do some test pieces tomorrow.

Thanks for looking!

Cage looks great Ernie.
I'm not sure my wife would be too happy about me using our bar-b-que to cure paint, but that's a good idea.
I have been thinking about finding an old electric oven to keep in the shop just for curing paint.

Having access to Lunsford racing would definitely not suck either. I would love to see inside that place. I have a thing about shiny machined metal! I get kind of gitty, and want to touch it. Lol.

Hey Poprivet, Thanks for the kind words. I usually let the paint cure in the paint booth for an hour before I put it in the bar-b-que, and I haven't notice any curing paint smells afterwards.
Come on down, I will take you up to see his shop and meet him. Kelly and Barb are two of the nicest people you would ever meet. He and I started racing together in the early 80s, in fact I was his first customer and he has sponsored me with titanium ever since.
He is also a (1-1) car guy and does some fantastic body work. He is the one who built the 383 for my 69 Roadrunner.
I will take some photos the next time I go to his shop.
Ernie,

Ernie,

Ernie, you get cooler every day!
That's one of the sweetest offers I've ever had. Thank you so much.

You guys are in Oregon right? I just checked and Lunsford Racing is about a 28 hour drive for me. Unfortunately that kind of travel is not in my budget or work schedule. If ever I'm close enough, you can bet on getting a pm from me.

I would still really appreciate some pictures of that place, and that 69.

So, you got Herbie painted yet?

Paint is drying as we speak! I will get some pics up later.

Here is a few photos of the Roadrunner.

Thanks guys, sorry to say that I had to part with it last year. Had some health issues that were higher on my priority list.
