Default MOA Dig Controller

Use a three position or linear channel to operate front and rear dig on your Motor Over Axle crawler.

The goal when building this was to make it as light as possible while still providing full functionality.

** This is a recent picture of the controller. It shows how I build them these days:

These pictures show how I built them at first. Still valid as you see what is going on inside.

Thanks for your great work!!

Nice drawing - you have some skills! The drawing is mostly correct, it just leaves out the electronics which are covered in heat shrink you see on the wires that plug into the receiver.

I'm not sure what you mean by "lock".

The circuit works to put a short across either the front or rear motor and it disconnects the ESC output from that motor, or it feeds the ESC to both motors.

Did that tell you what you were asking about?

That's okay Juan,
I'll just repeat my answer here for completeness.

How hard the dig locks up the wheels is a function of the motor, gearing, drive train friction and wheel traction. My dig works in the same manner as many other dig switches but (probably - depends on what they used) uses a somewhat larger relay and will therefore have a slightly better braking action. I can't say for sure that it will work better in a way that is enough for you to notice.

When testing the system on my bully, if the surface isn't super grippy, the rear locks up totally. If the surface has lots of sharp edges and the tires dig in, the locked wheels will still turn a little.

Hope that helps!

It all depends on the motor (and gearing/drivetrain) , how good it locks up.

A cheap integy you won't have a very good locked motor because it has weak magnets, springs, winds, etc

A quality handwound (such as a brood or hh torque/crawl master) you'll have a good locked up moto because it has a nice strong magnet and springs, and have a good windings which makes a nice mag field

At least the way these type of dig switches work.

Probably about a dozen of them have sold. Most guys want to run dual ESCs, but I like to keep these here in case someone needs them.

I don't have a scale, but I would say the weight is about 3/4 of the weight of a metal geared servo.

Would you like to run it into one of my dig controllers?

That was my awkward way of suggesting you buy a dig controller from me to use with your single ESC.

Looking at the pictures, it looks like the motor leads have clear plugs on them? So they dont "need" to be soldered on.
I have an XR10 on the way without a dig unit. Someone here reccomended you and this looks great.
