Thanks Grizzly4x4 . Most winches can handle up to 11.1v or 3s, but my servo can only handle 7.4v or 2s (Hitec 7950TH). Do you think if I run a separate battery for the winches help solve the problem? Or should I get another BEC instead? Thanks.

No problem. I wouldn't run a separate battery. That's a more expensive solution and it adds a lot more weight. I run my winches off 6v, in fact the Heyok controller can only handle 6v max. I just set the CCBEC to 6v and wire it to the controller.

The new SSD winch is based on a high torque servo and can work with up to 11.1v. The motor plug is the same as the RC4WD winches so it is easy to plug into an RC4WD controller. But can be cut off for use with HeyOK controller. It lifted over 30Kg on 11.1v. Using a normal winch controller you can expect it to lift 15Kg. Just make sure you have a good winch line. Most lines break before 15Kg. I tested with Dyneema (1.0mm diameter line). Last edited by SSD; 04-08-2016 at 02:08 AM. |

I found some more info on it: Notes from the manufacturer: Requires Winch controller to operate. SSD recommends using RC4WD or HeyOK winch controllers. Requires hook. SSD recommends RC4WD winch hooks. The new SSD winch is based on a high torque servo and can work with up to 11.1v. The motor plug is the same as the RC4WD winches so it is easy to plug into an RC4WD controller. But can be cut off for use with HeyOK controller. It lifted over 30Kg (66 lbs) on 11.1v. Using a normal winch controller you can expect it to lift 15Kg (33 lbs). Just make sure you have a good winch line. Most lines break before 15Kg. I tested with Dyneema (1.0mm diameter line). |

Just a short bench test. 9lb rig using a almost dead 3s 4400mAh and a HeyOK 4 amp relay controller, It pulls as good as my KMS 220 oz. Fully charged battery will make a big difference. |

For $150 I expect a winch controller included. This ala carte bs is starting to annoy me. Kinda like SSD Yeti wide axle, the shafts that come with it are useless and bend if looked at wrong but, for another $25 you can have the SSD HD shafts. I'll be posting a comparison of those SSD shafts this week. Bringing the pain since 1968 |

Also, $150 is a great price, considering that it looks way better than a KMS (not bashing, I know that it is a servo winch) and supposedly performs just as good. On top of that, the KMS K2 220, which the SSD is comparable to, doesn't come with a controller and is still $20 more, but nobody complains about that...

| Re: SSD free spool Ox Power Winch! ...to the haters of what looks like a sweet option. If you don't like this price, good luck finding the QS. The Quicksand winch IS $350 if you can score one. Thank you to SSD for bringing this to market! I'll be ordering a few. |

There was no attmept to match a scale on this winch. Just as small as possible with servo internals.

winch is way to small for the 1/6 jeep based on 1:1 pictures but no winch really looks to scale on a 1/6th imo.

I would assume that SSD has some sort of manufacturing be it in house, 3rd party regional or China. That being the case their price point should be the same with a quality winch controller. Mass build a product as good or better for less and include the required controller, not one that will burn out/up, and you will sell enough units to allow for a lower msrp and still make a profit. However, SSD, who's products I do use, kind of sullied the experience when I bought their Yeti wide rear axle then come to realize to really get what you originally bought it for you have to buy their HD shafts due to the shafts that come with the axle bend like butter. Agreeing or disagreeing with my opinion has no bearing on said opinion. And I am not saying anything bad about their winch. I just don't happen to like the fact they won't offer it at that price point without a decent controller. I have no problem spending money on this hobby, I have a lot invested in all of my comp rigs. However, the money I spend has to be justifiable. Bringing the pain since 1968

There didn't seem much point in including an controller and hook and then increasing the price. Most of the buyers of this product product will likely already own winches and have a good quality controller and problably many hooks. Anyway, your assumption about price/profit is wrong. |
