Default Mayhem poll-Breather hole?

I see a lot of people putting in breather holes, Is this something you would want to see in the wheels when purchased or is this something you would rather do yourself? Thanks Mayhem Eng.

i vote a definant yes, but run the airholes into 2 of the bolt holes on the back side of the wheel...that way they can be shut by people if they dont want them

That would be a great idea, but i think you would need to add some sorta way to plug it easily. That way you could have both options.

Default Breather

Mayhem,

I have always ran breather holes in my wheels. If you can I wouldn't mind you doing a breather hole in each of the Back Ring Screw Holes on each wheel like some of the MSD guys are doing. That way if you want to run a breather you just leave one screw out, it is clean and since the screw is coming from the back ring you can't see the screw missing. Those who prefer to run airtight can seal it with silicone and set the screw back in with no issues.

Just my Newbie opinion.

Let me know if you can do those breathers on my wheels for me. I don't have many tools to do it myself and I would probably jack the wheel doing it myself. I can send you some more cash if you need me to.

I like drilling my own. Tape can be used to cover the hole back up. You can alway pre-drill the holes and only thread them half way and use a grub screw to plug them if need be.

make 2- 3mm holes in the wheel, then tap them so they could be plugged by the customer if needed.

KK- you dont even need the silicone. If you just put the screw back in it works great...thats what i did on my mayhems...

sorry to duplicate what NJ05nismo said it looks like we both hit reply at the same time because no one had responded when I clicked on reply. I like the 2 Screw hole Idea as well! 2 is always better than 1 right!

That makes sense! I wasn'tt sure if they would leak slowly under a lot of pressure and then not refill afterwards. Thanks!

I do not run foams and keep all screws in /no holes on my rims. If you were going to tap a hole or make a plug, it would need to be plugged from the inside for sake of keeping clearances inside the rim and if using rubber plug the larger flange would need to be inside to keep from being blown out.

IMHO, people use too many different setups, to try to make everyone happy would be impossible. I rather drill my own holes

Your better off letting people drill there own or offer as a option. (I use 1 hole per wheel at 1/8" lots of us would be easy) that could be an option just like engraving.

I think two holes per wheel tapped to 3mm with short button head screws installed from the inside would be perfect. That way if people want airholes they can pull them out and if you don't then leave it in

I do the same to my wheels. One 1/8" hole in every wheel for breathing. It would be nice to have it predrilled, but I can go either way.

I say let people drill their own. I usually run two 1/8" holes opposite of each other in my wheels. Only thing nice about you drilling the holes or tapping them is that the inside of the hole/tap will get ano'd with the rest of the wheel instead of seeing the raw aluminum after the customer has drilled it. Not that big of a deal, but some are into the details like me

Two 3mm holes. Drilled. Threaded. Perfect solution.

Set screws included would be a nice touch.

Covers all the options for any situation. Great idea...

P.S. While I'm dreaming... a nice deep groove to hold extra weight would be awesome.

NO HOLES!!!!

This is a damn hobby. If you want breathers, go back to your roots & do it your self.
