Default Sipe stock tires

By sipping the stock tire and turning tread around I dramaticly increased grip and side bite, side hilling also increased

doing side lugs lets the tire "fold over" more , alot if rims are drilled to let rims vent.

I know have some chissals , but they worked great to start with and will probibly keep em around to thrash on in the snow.

Nice idea What are you using to cut them? Razor blade? Do you have 10 fingers still?

Sorry , forgot to tell ya .

I just used a dremal with a flex shaft and cut off wheel. It's a little messy , might want to do it outside , or if the old lady is gone...LOL

I think they'll work good in the snow and ice this winter.

its not that bad 10 or 15 min each, just a little messy. Much easier if you take wheels off truck, leave on rim, don't drill holes in rims tell after cutting tread otherwise its a little tougher cuz the tire folds real easy. If you cut a little to deep,no big deal acts like vent hole anyways.

these mods make a world of diff. on stock tires you won't believe it, well worth the time x2

thanks Tom

Having done this some time ago, would you still recommend doing this? I just dont have the extra change to get new tread right now and would like to optimize the performance of what I have. What would you say the "cons" of siping are? Besides faster wear...

First off there will be no noticable extra wear unless you have some wild wheel speed and spin your way up a rock, not my style at all.

Yes I would deffo reccomend that a new owner tries the stock rubber and experiments with them. I did and put over 30 hrs of rock time in with them. I did the same with a set of Axial Rock-lizards.

I now have Rover Blues but I learnt a lot about tires, suspension geometry and driving style while running a less than spectacular tire.

Even now I pull out the Ridgelines or lizzards when it has rained and see what I can do on the rocks. It is real hard then, but that is fun for me.

you can find rock claws for $15 bucks shipped on the classifieds!!! i got ripped and paid $20 for mines

but if you can't get em i will def for sure cut the stockers up and see if you can gain any performance. there is no cons to this, you are gonna end up replacing those tires anyways.

Wow old threads popping up all over the place,,,the problem is this,,these tires will never compete with tires like Rovers and Sedonas...or others...no matter how much they are siped or delugged they just arent the comp level that others are.

True but for a kit tyre and a budget they are great!
