| Stock Axle Shafts, or SCX-10 Axles?
What's up guys. So I just broke an axle shaft on my Creeper. I was doing a small climb over a wood pile, and I saw that only my rear left tire was spinning.. Upon further inspection, both my front diff unlocked and my rear axle shaft (right) snapped right where the shaft meets the ball end. So, naturally I looked for a replacement axle.. Now, the cheapest I found the stock axles to be was give or take, $20. That's for a single axle. If I break two of them, I'm up to the price of buying a complete SCX-10 axle. Those will at least have better upgrade options. Thing is, If I go to the SCX-10 axle on the rear, I won't have 4WS anymore.. and I found out that's why the axle broke.. too steep of a steering angle. No problem, I'll dial down the steering EPA. What do you guys suggest? Is there a better option for axle shafts for the creeper, or should I go to the SCX-10 axles? Has anyone done such a thing? Thanks. -Corrupt |

There are no direct bolt in upgrades for the axle shafts. The creeper axles are a little bit wider then the scx axles. There are some mods that can be done to fit XR axles in there. I would suggest just running the scx axles. All you need is a front scx axle assembly and you will have your 4WS back.

You could have creeperbob make you some shafts. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axles...le-shafts.html |

I skimmed through that thread and saw where he is working on front U-joint axles. Corrupt wants to keep his rear steer so the rears that are currently available wont work for him. Now if Creeperbob gets the front U-joint axles figured out for creepers I'll be in for 2 sets!

Awesome recommendations fellas. Thanks, looks like I will have to go with the SCX Axles. Width isn't a huge factor for me.. my Creeper has been converted to a semi-scaler anyways, so I definitely don't need comp spec. axles. Looks like I'll be shopping for SCX axles soon -Corrupt |

the scx axles are a little bit narrower but they have aftermarket support. If I recall correctly I fit an scx dogbone into the short side of the venom axle and it fit, the axle was too short for the long side though. Maybe a Wraith short side dogbone? The issue with wraith axles and stuff is the neckdown part reduces the surface area the diff has to turn the axle itself. All in all you would be better off using scx axles, I have stripped a set of trans gears in mine and if the axles are discontinued the gears may be gone too. |
