| Venom Creeper build ideas
Hello, i am new to the world of rock crawling and I have decided to get the venom creeper. The only problem is that since I am new to the hobby, I have no idea what electronics to use on it. I have $150 to spend on a servo, esc, motor, and radio. Please help any input is appreciated.

Before I go looking for stuff for ya, are you just looking to be a backyard basher? Also remember to read and study the tips and tricks thread. You could look at something like the RC4WD OutCry ESC. For a remote look at the RC4WD XR2. For a motor take a look at the Integy Matrix V10. For a servo look at the TowerPro MG995. Grand total is $128.91 plus shipping for the remote, servo and esc. You didn't say if you needed a battery or not. Last edited by Wicked Klown; 09-19-2010 at 12:15 PM. |

Tight budget, keep looking in the for sale section. Great deals do come up there. Hi-tec 7950 TH servo is my personal favorite. everyone likes something different. I use Novak Goat3s no issues with it. I have a friend that makes chassis for the Creeper, great guy and reasonable prices. 4VP v2 Comp Chassis for Venom Creeper |

It will be most likely just for bashing around the back yard... There are no competitions in my area but there are some nice rocks

I appreciate that you're working to a (tight) budget, but IMO it's simply not worth spending whatever money you do on inadequate equipment. "Quality is remembered long after price has been forgotten." That said, Wicked Klown has given some sound advice. Only thing I'll spend more on is the servo - MG995 servos are crap, it'll last for a few packs and then you'd wish you bought a proper servo instead. Also ask yourself if you're going to stick with this hobby, or loose interest and shelf it after a few weeks (difficult question at this time I suppose?). Anyway, welcome to the addiction and have fun. |

Personally I use the HexTronik HX12's and they have worked really good so far (almost up to 8 hours runtime already!!) and not even a hint of a problem being run on a 6V BEC... $8 a piece is a pretty alright price to get ya started, buy 2 at that price... HobbyKing now has CNC aluminum cased servos with 15kg/cm (200 oz/in) torque which is pretty alright, they also have a decent price... Have a look... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s.../_75g_/_0.2sec http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._10kg_/_.16sec Personally I think spending more money on servos than the initial price of the truck is sillyness... If you're not a hardcore Crawlmaster why throw away money when you could spend that money somewhere else on the rig, like on tires or driveshafts... 300 oz/in servos are overkill in my book... Just my 2 cents... |
