my Yoda Crawler build

What's up? I've been a lurker for awhile now and decided to share the build that my 6 y/o son and I put together. He came up with the paint scheme and placement of stickers, the roof has a Star Wars clone wars sticker with Yoda hence the name. The list of components is as follows:

1 stock Venom Crawler with relocated lower links(turned and mounted to ooutside of chassis) rear upper links are spread apart to help combat T T, front shocks upper mounting moved lower on battery tray. All pins have been shrink wrapped.

HR front C's and spindles
HR rear lockouts
Novak Rooster Crawler
Novak 45T
Savox SC-1256TG titanium gear "High Torque"steering servo
Spektrum SR300 reciever
Spektrum DX 3.0 radio
Venom front and rear lockers with HD metal diff. housings(these are the newly released lockers)
Venom 6-cell NiMH 4200mah
Motor and trans. have been flipped...motor now resides in the rear of the chassis this allowed for a more evenly balanced crawler
Currently have zero weight in tires.

The plan is to upgrade the shock springs and add a Paradox rear upper link mount.
And now on to the pics:

how do the lockes hold up? any slop?

fcr61 06-15-2011 04:49 PM

The lockers were just added days ago...was previously running the stock selectable with a washer behind the red lock ring, needless to say the spider gears were chipping away. The locker tolerances are very tight and there is no slop at all.

sweet is the locker steel or aluminum? as well as the carrier?

asw27x 06-15-2011 07:14 PM

i would say aluminum but u dont know

looks good i have a few suggestions

mount the lowers back to the skid plate like stock and put the shocks on the lower link mount tabs

The lockers appear to be steel or an alloy with a high steel content as it is very magnetic...compared to the stock axle shafts the lockers are the same type material. The carrier is an alloy and is labeled as so...definetly a different finish compared to the lockers.

Well figured I'd post a quick update, the Yoda crawler has been down for about a month and a half...lack of time and broken parts. I have since moved my lower shock mounts to the lower link mounting position. I am currently waiting for a new ring and pinion for both front and rear diff's as being an earlier kit the pinion has shed some teeth, also have some HB Rovers coming should make a huge difference...once I get it back together I'll grab some action shots.
