| Broken pinion gear on first trip out
Ok, I bought a creeper kit for myself for chirstmas this year. It went together pretty good other than missing a couple scews, but atomik got them to me pretty quick. I got it all put together and ran it upside down a little bit to start breaking it in. After a couple minutes I took it out in the yard and drove it around, but didnt crawl over anything. It made a couple popping noises and ground to a halt. After looking over it a little bit I found that the rear drive shaft would not turn. So I took that axle apart and found that the pinion gear had come apart. One side of the gear is missing 2 teeth, the other side 3. Any ideas what could have caused this, or what needs to be done to prevent it from happening again?

search would have brought you to my thread where i went through this. basically two things: 1) bad pinions older NIB kits had them, call Atomik they will replace them, tell them that you need two sets (comes with ring, replace both). 2) check you drive shafts, mine where sliding fine, but got tight towards full compression. i found it was just tight enough to push on the pinion allowing it to skip a tooth and blow. i replaced my drive lines with some G-made units ( any aftermarket shaft will be a improvement) and never blew another pinion. I went through 10 before i got it worked out.

The 90 to 103mm I think. Fully extend the suspension and measure installed length from outer end to outer end of the yokes, then compress the suspension and measure again. Sent from my RM-845_nam_vzw_100 using Board Express |
