Looks so much like a real dragster taking off at the line! |
Sweet!! Wow that's quick off the line"thumbsup" |
that things shits n gits! what gearing ya runnin? |
I had my slash motor and esc in mine when I first built it, just to get it on the rocks. Thing hooked it up. Raced my buddy and his fast turn motored SCX at our local track untill I took a jump to hard and hit the outside front tire at full lock and destroyed my servo. |
That's with the stock 14 tooth pinion, 3s LiPo, and Sidewinder ESC. |

very sweet launches. makes me wanna do a solid rear drag car. i see you got your right rear off the ground too |
now if only a real ford could do that |
I've since installed a Jeep hardbody and shortened the wheelbase to just under 10.5" and it launches much straighter now. Though I believe the improvement came from better suspension geometry, a lower ride height, and installing firmer rear foams. I also geared it up to a 15 tooth pinion, which I think is too big for my purposes. |
I posted this in my build thread, but thought I'd post here, too, for those who may be interested.... Well, I've decided against the Slash motor. The reason is fairly simple. It just doesn't offer enough finite low speed control. And it's accentuated by its lack of torque. In some tough spots it will stall until it starts drawing enough current and then it'll surge forward too abruptly. Other times, it just doesn't begin crawling slowly enough. In other words, it requires too much throttle to get it going and then you can back off and crawl slower. It actually reminds me of wheelin' a 1:1 rig with an automatic transmission. When it gets into a bit of a bind it'll require more throttle and eventually the converter loads up and then can "shock" the tires into spinning just a bit. It can make it very difficult to very slowly crawl an obstacle and it's why I have three pedals in my Jeep! :) Granted, a much smaller pinion could help, but then it would defeat the purpose of the higher speed motor, IMO. In addition, for a crawler, this is just an unrealistic amount of wheel speed and that's not what I'm after. And all this is after I altered the curves on my speed controller (Sidewinder). So I'm going to look into a 35T or maybe a 27T motor so I can still have some wheelspeed, but it should provide enough torque and progressive throttle control to keep me happy. The Slash motor will see use again, though. My next project after the 6x6 trials truck will be a dual purpose pre-runner/rock crawler. This motor will be great for it. |
http://www.sympato.ch/smileys/Whao.gif Sweet!!!! |
The slash motor has had more than enough torque and slow speed control for decent crawling. how hard were the lines you crawled with it? |
I have been thinking of putting my old slash motor in my SCX looks like it could be fun. As of now i got a old trinity 27T and it has enought wheel speed on 2s that it makes it quicker on the flat sections between obstacle's I'm gonna go 3s once i pick up a new esc. IT has alot of low speed torque and doesnt studder at all. |
nice impessive, but it would never do that without the lipos.:lol::lol::lol: |

Nice. Never would have expected the low speed ability if you had only SAID it was a 12t  Makes me want to install my Xcelorin 4800 in mine. :) |
I run a 35t with a 14t pinion in my 2.2 scaler, and it works great. Great low end control, with torque, and some good high speed stuff also. |
That kicks  |
I like 3s...its like NOS for our rigs... |
Nice that thing is fast.... Nice job. Looks great.."thumbsup" -CLIFF- |
The slo'mos are kick a**"thumbsup" |
That slow motion launch was sweet "thumbsup" |
Man the slow mo's were awesome. Any launches with the new setup? |
Pardon the noob question here, but never owned a Slash. What motor ESC is that, and where can I buy the setup new? Links would be great. I got a rock racer/ basher this would be perfect for."thumbsup" |
esc- xl-5 motor- 12t titan |

much much faster with more torque if you have the right battery but slow crawls may be an issue since it's brushless |

Months ago I shortened my SCX10 chassis and fitted it with a Jeep body. Well, I slapped the Slash motor in it along with all the same electronics from before and I took a video last night after I put the drifter away... ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8QxI8HZOZg |
Good |
very nice last time i put a brushless in my honcho i snapped a shaft before i even made it to the rocks lol |
i put the traxxas brushless waterproof setup on my scorpion with a 24t pinion and a 3s and it is freaking crazy but it did lose alot of low end with that 24t on there |
Nice Really good video. Love to see that kind of launch off the line. Even if it isn't good for crawling, sure must be fun for bashing. |
could i put a 12t titan and trx esc into my stock honcho? would i have to do anything to it? thanks |
