Default New Pro Course Design

We had our ETRC Fun Comp this weekend and tried out a new course format. Greencrawler spawned the idea and after a couple of tweaks, it worked out great. A couple of people wanted to see video of the idea so we shot one.

It works great for spreading out scores over the entire field without having just one or two people jump way out ahead like bonuses sometimes cause.

Its in HD

I like that alot better than the crazy bonus scenarios that have been popping up.
Good thinking!

I'd like to see some major comps try this. I think it would be really successful.

Right on. I like the 4pt part.

Similar to a bonus after every gate format that I have ran before.

Sort of...but you get to choose for each gate if you want the 2point option or the 4point option.

Maybe the powerhouse had surveillance cameras pointed at me or something.

Yes. All gates are live. You definitely want to choose wisely when picking your line.

Very cool idea! Might have to throw that in on a course at the next comp..

It looked like a mix of the rock an tire an foams.. its been a while since a ran side lugs on my BC's but do remember it bein a huge jump in bite once shaved. I thought the foams looked still, stiffer then mine, 5.25" soft in the front. Bein said. BC's do the job!

IMO bonus gate are silly for the reason you guys speak of.

I like your idea of a and b gate.

But why not just simplify it?
why not just make 10 really hard gates and the best driver wins.

That is how we run are comps
we run 4 courses 10 gates each
some finish no problem and other not so much
but it seems the top driver finish at the top each time

Also imo it doesn't really matter what format you run the best driver should still win.

Just my 2 cent

A bunch of really hard gates plus a bunch of new people in the sport/hobby and you get a lot of un finished courses and discouraged new people. This gives drivers choices to make, adds a little strategy, and allows more people to finish courses with a bigger variety of scores.

The only question I have is how does it fit in to the USRCCA rules since they specifically state that each gate that isn't a bonus is worth 2 points? Seems like the design conflicts with how the rules are currently written.

Cool to see a new idea and even better to move away from the crazy bonus courses!!

Maybe it's time to contact RC reps and vote to have the rules amended to allow for such creative course designs.
