Geez, it wasn't long ago when I was deciding between the TRX4, SXC10ii, and Enduro. I puller the trigger on a TRX4Sport kit w/ recommended electronics. Not quite to the upgrade mods since I want to start from stock. Then came the Capra, the VS-10 Ultra, and now this.

I beginning to understand why so many of you have many tiny trucks!

I have a bunch of different platforms, and haven't been too excited about any of the new releases lately, just different bodies on the stuff I already have for the most part. This could be interesting

it's an interesting way to get into the crawler market, but aside from the AA batteries, I like what I see so far.

Damn, I swear this freaking Mini-Z got more threads than the SCX10 II.

I have Mini-Z's. I believed the hype that they are "worth the money" and I can say wholeheartedly that they are not. The AAA batteries are a deal killer. I'd never buy another Mini-Z until they fix that huge flaw. Even then, this thing isn't worth $200 to me.

Not sure what the fuss is with the AAA batteries. Us mini-z racers use HV 750-900HV batteries with good power and run time. Most racing cells with a proper charger will charge to 1.55 volts.

Much higher c rating and discharge rate than say Duracell or Energizer rechargables

Here is where I purchase my AAA's. NiHM Batteries

I think the fuss is coming from people not accustomed to the mini z platform. This new product is being introduced to the crawler/ trail truck community that are accustomed to lipo batteries, and therefore already have chargers batteries ect. This is a cause for resistance, just like when people were accustomed to Dean's plugs, and Traxxas wanted everyone to use only traxxas plugs, batteries, and chargers for their trucks.
The use of AAA batteries doesn't conform to industry standards in the trail truck market.

Ok, understand. I will find out the max volts for the Mini-z board. Possibly a small 2 cell lipo would work do to the slow motor speeds. First thought is 8.4 volts on a 2 cell lipo will be too much, but will find out from Kyosho.

When I receive the crawler, going to eventually do a mod to allow brushless motor and lipo battery. Will post results and info when complete. PN Racing makes a swap out board for this mod.

There's a big fuss because AAA batteries suck. Alkalines are bad and the rechargeable batteries are no better. I did get some specifically from Kenon Hobby for my Mini-Z's based on the many recommendations from fans of the platform. The power and run time you get from AAA's is lacking.
