I would prefer the 31st, but could probably make the 1st work too.

So after blowing the motor in the debut run of his fully customized 4x4 he calls Rambos Wroncho, lets just say Johnny was a little pissed. Now the way he sees it he has a couple options. 1 bigger motor with more torque or 2 get the torque he needs by gear adjustments. John heads out to the shop and finds that he has the parts he needs to go with option two.

Well as we all know Rambo dont f#@k around so its not surprising that he tore into the transmission like it wasn't nobodies business. He installed a 89t gear to replace the 87t that was factory in the tranny. While he was at it and it was all tore apart he replaced all the factory nuts, bolts, and washers with 431 grade stainless steel hardware. He paid 3X what he would have paid for the most commonly used 316 grade ss hardware, but the corrosion resistant properties of the 400 series ss will help fight against any galvanic action caused when dissimilar metals are in constant contact. He had some precision machined bearings delivered by the local machinr shop. Tranny ready

Next on his shit list was the motor. Now Rambo aint no fool so he ain't gonna give up all his secrets but he did manage to get more torque out of an identical motor. We wont push the issue.

And after a little blood was spilt when his arm was nearly torn off because of a defective POS cherry picker he got on sale from Harbor Freight, he still had time for his favorite hobbie. He managed to get his new body mounted on the Clod Buster.

Nice garage!

So was the only gearing change Rambo made the switch from an 87 to 89 tooth spur? No pinion change?

And I have always operated under the understanding that 431 SS is about the same or slightly lower corrosion resistance than 304...which is less resistant than 316. Am I completely off the wall here?

Ahh someone was paying attention. Well done Bo you are exactly right.
As far as the gearing goes I have been running 23T pinion. Got a 16t im gonna put on the motor. Also the mudslingers were purchased from a member here. I opened them up last knight and there was 8oz in each wheel. I dont have a problem using some weights to achieve a better cog but I think there is a point where the weight is causing the motor to work harder to turn a already heavy rig. In my mind keeping the extra weight out of the drive line if possible. Mountin the weight directly to the axle would be a better option in my mind. Im gonna get rid of the weight and see where im at. Just keep tweeking till i get her to my liking. Of course my first impulsive thought was slap on the twim mount and a couple 35t motors and be done.

Lol I heard that. Had to take the cutting wheel to the 1:1 the other day since I had some bolts that didn't want to cooperate

Gotcha Nate, that'll be a nice reduction that should take care of some stress/heat issues the motor was having. Andy wow, that is A LOT of weight in each wheel. Good luck dialing it in, hope we can get together for a new years run!
