Not when it overheats and shuts down repeatedly. The first version was awesome, I run them in all my other rigs. The SV2 sucks donkey balls! It must have thermo'd 15-20 times on Saturday . Lots of people have had the same issue.

Hm, that was one of the ESC's in contention to go into the trail truck. Sounds like it mighta been a wise decision to not go that way. Although I'm not sure the Sidewinder Micro was any better of a gamble.

If you were to get out from under that thing, what're you thinking you'd replace it with?

For $70, the Sidewinder SV1 was impossible to beat considering all it's features. Other Castle esc's haven't had the same overheating issues that I'm aware of. Holmes Hobbies or Tekin would be a good choice, but now you're looking at $100+.

It is ALIVE!!!!!

Yeah, that trail truck I was threatening to build back in....... '11, got my connections all soldered up and did a functional check in the basement. Everything appears to be in running order. Even with a 35-turn, it was reeaallllyy s-l-o-w on a 6 cell NiMh. So I threw one of my comp crawlers packs in (3S LiPo), and it woke right up. Kinda makes me wonder if instead of ordering up a ringer chassis for the AX, maybe I should have ordered some larger capacity LiPos instead. NAH!

Now tonight was just a functional check of all mechanical bits, I still have a body to paint. I already have the paints, airbrush and means to do it, just need to find some gumption. I may yet get this thing ready before the snow flies, never know.

Pull the trigger already, Trubble!

After too much fiddly-dickin' around, I think I have gathered all the parts and come up with a pleasing combination (at least to me, anyway). I think I'm gonna call her...

~White Lightnin'~

SCX-10 roller/w MIP's
Honcho cage/bed
Clod Chevy cab
ARB bumper
2.2 PL Hammers
G-Made wheels/w polished rings
VXL-3S waterproof brushless system

Paintin' the body is all that's left and the SCX conversion is done. Every time I think about having to go downstairs and sanding the body, I just get kinda lazy and say "ya know, I could just squirt some Fascolor inside and be done all in one shot." But if my CUCV paint turns out nice, I'd be really happy. Just having trouble committing, I guess.

I had ordered a Ringer chassis for my AX (comp rig), but I'm starting to wonder if I'm ever going to see it. Finally got sick of waiting for word, and stuck the new front axle on (w/ XR mod). Found out my steering links are going to give me some serious fits. Guess I best start getting some work (actually) done!

I never cared much for the red anno on these, so off it came. The VXL is a recipe for disaster but luckily I can dial it back to be (hopefully) driveable. On the plus side, the esc is waterproof, 3S ready and will do brushed, brushless and sensored brushless .

Well, I powered up the VXL on 3S in sport mode (full power) and pulled the trigger with the wheels off the ground. I swear I could hear air turbulence coming off the tires! It would be undriveable and uncontrollable at that setting (not a big surprise). Training mode at 50% power or running 2S might be less deadly. The goal was to have the horsepower to catch some air and throw some roosts, but still be manageable. The experiment continues...

Well, the VXL motor didn't work to my liking (pretty bad cogging at low speed) so next up is a sensored 5800kV unit. Still way too fast but seems like it'll be smoother at speeds under 60! In the meantime, the WK MT is coming along nicely. Pics to follow soon...

Here's some shots of the WK MT. It's big. It's ugly. It's fast!

Soon I hope, this thing would be phenominal as a sand-throwing sandcastle crushing beach basher . I have some Crawler Innovations goodness to install yet to handle the horsepower of the 8.5. The HD trans output shafts are drilled and pinned through the T/E Maxx driveshafts (no slip) and the longer one will clear a 96 tooth spur. Whether or not the diffs hold up is another story. After last nights test drive I should call it TITS: big, bouncey and fun to play with!
