I picked up a Castle Creations mamba max pro esc this weekend for my hybrid Wheely King/Axial/Clod truck "Big, Fast and Ugly". I stole the old school Novak out of it awhile back but it died of old age! I was hoping to do some snow bashing with it but it's pretty sloppy out right now. The esc has a built-in programmable bec, which I didn't know, but it's a nice feature. It also has no motor limit, brushed or brushless and will handle 6S . If it lives up to the hype, I might get another one for one of my Snowcats. Either that, or a Sidewinder SV3 waterproof one to power the sensorless 5700kV motor thats in it. Thats all I have for now.... |

I paid $129 at HT, but RPP has them for $115. It does sensored/sensorless BL motors which is nice cuz I have both. As for your geometry problem, it could be due to different link lengths between the uppers and lowers. Without seeing it work, I'm just guessing here. You might have to play with link positions, ect to find a cure. Nice progress on the rig! |

Hobbytown has them at $149.99, but with a $20 off coupon is was within about $2-$3 of Tower's price. With all it's features, it's hard to beat at that price. Back to the link issues, whats your link seperation top to bottom like on that rig? Parallel links of equal length is ideal, not always possible on rc's though. I think it's more noticeable the more travel you have. |

Everything looks really good link-wise. Not sure why the axle wants to swing forward under compession (if I'm understanding the issue correctly). You might try longer upper links mounted directly above the lowers at the chassis end. Otherwise, I got nuthin'. I just noticed the axle is clocked upward a bunch, that may be throwing things off more than normal. Last edited by TrailDawg362; 11-30-2014 at 06:12 PM. |

I finally got to see the Vaterra Ascender upclose today. A guy had one at the track today and I got to inspect it, but it was only a roller. Overall, it looks pretty nice. I didn't care for the floatong battery tray though, you have to run shorty packs with it. The axles look super scale, and the pumpkins look really small compared to Axials. The tires seemed decent and the body is about an inch wider than the Proline version. The seperate chromed plastic grill and headlights with lenses is a nice touch. I didn't see much cross bracing on the chassis, not sure if thats a big deal though. One nice feature is the chassis mounted servo. The anodized aluminum links are pretty sweet, and come with spacers for a short/long wheelbase.

I got to check it out yesterday too. Now a bad looking kit, seems lighter then a scx10. But a lot more going on in the tranny. While I was there I also picked up a tf2.

I wonder if thats because they don't have the same amount of gear reduction at the diff? I guess the closer you get to a 1:1 gear ratio, the more twist is generated? Something for sharper minds than mine to ponder...

Would be nice to run a full size pack out of the box, but someone is making an electronics plate that will allow a full size pack.

well, got to watch the new asender in action. had some guys out with 4 of them devils lake last saturday. now I dint ask to drive one but paid close attention in some areas. all my opinion. wana make sure that's said. comparing to my scx10 wich does quite well for me pros sharper steering little more flex very quiet (new trucks normaly are) cons the body is fricken huge. longer wheelbase with that body has more hangups on the rocks also adding to the cog all the trucks were new and had some tweeking to be done yet. couple loose screws ect all in all thought it was a nice rig. would get one myself if a good deal came along but not willing to go now and pay full price for one again just my opinion. more time on a drier day and I might change my mind |
