Default Got it! Need help still with electronics.

Bear with me, i am a newbie for sure, but i have been doing a lot of research. This forum has a ton of usefull info.

Ok, so my X-Crawler came in, and it is very impressive. it is my first crawler, and i am very excited about getting it going. I have an idea for the paint for the body it came with, i just need to get some paint.

I am looking mainly into radios/revievers for it. I came across this crawler on ebay, and thought the transmitter from it would work realy well if i could buy it separately from from the truck:

I was originaly gonna go with just one ESC, but the more reading and research i do on it, i realized i would be halfassing it with one esc, and am just gonna get 2 Sidewinders and some brushless motors, likely Castle ones, not definite on the motors yet, but it will be a 55t or 45t. probably will go with a 3 cell LiPo. Question on the LiPo's, do they produce as much power as the higher Mah standard cell batteries? I dont want to be underpowered. What do you guys run?

The stock body that came with it will get a Camo paintjob, i need to pick up some tools and paint and i'll post up pics of that soon. I will be heading to one of the hobbyshops in my area soon to get what i need. What are some good reliable online hobbyshop retailers? Thanks for the help, here is a pic of my crawler. first order of business will be making the lower shock hangers not stick out like a sore thumb, and fixing a little bit of play in the knuckles on the axles. Cant wait to start making some custom parts for this.

I was happy to see the yellow body on the box of this Crawler, i hear it is the one w/ the good gears and axleshafts in it.

i dont run a lipo but i know lots of guys run lipos and the mah's they run are around 1200-2500 mah and they get atleast 45 minutes of run time depending on what they run or how, but they get tons of run time and id go with 3 cell and not have to worry about having enough power/speed. i upgraded to 9.6 volts with ni-mh and it helped a ton

Radio wise i think i may just get the RDS8000 they recommend in the owners manual, they can be found for very reasonable prices. It would be nice to have a twin stick transmitter, i always liked that style when i was a young buck, i can see where w/ a crawler it would have its advantages.

I've got my son's X-Crawler set up on a 3900mah 2s Lipo and he actually gets bored before the battery dies. Run times well over an hour. We're running one Sidewinder with 55t's and, at my sons skill level, I don't see the need for a twin esc setup. For him, or a typical newbie, the twin stick, twin steer, twin esc would make it overly complicated to drive. He's using a TQ3 with the rear steer modification and it's perfect. You can always upgrade by adding the second esc and stick radio later.

that does sound like a good idea too, but i only want to set it up once and just be done with it. I always liked the stick style remotes better than the wheel and trigger style anyways. I was leaning towards twin esc's from the get go because from what i have seen it will add some more maneuverability features, and with the better radio added to it it should make it a very capable crawler. From what i gather from the manual, the dual ESC's and multiple channeled radio should allow me to operate front and rear motors separetely w/ the right control input. This should allow for front and rear dig maneuvers w/o adding any dig switches and drag braoking on one axle or the other.
