Cheap homeade skidplates

Now that you finished your X-Crawler and you have tons of cash into it, the last thing you want to do is to gouge up and scratch your beautifully machined aluminum undercarriage on the very surface your trying to tackle, well at least its the last thing I like to do.

I've found a cheap alternative that actually slides over rocks easier than aluminum, is light weight and replaceable when you've scarred it enough.

Thin plastic sheeting and double sided tape work well on aluminum. You just cut it to shape, bend it and press it over the double sided tape...replace when its damaged enough. The sheets are available from Hobby People, you get 3 sheets for 4 bucks and the tape is available from pretty much any store, I got mine from radio shack.

Great idea, man. I'll be sure to remember this one when I have a fresh skid plate!
Does the plastic keep its bends because of the tape, or do the bends naturally "stay?"

I bend it by hand. Its very thin so you can fold it without cracking and it holds it shape.
