| X-Factor hybrid update - PICS!!! - 56K warning
Sup guys. The digi cam has been down so I'm finally showin yall an update on my X-Factor Hybrid. I've had the gd600 for about a month now. Since our vid Texas Jam3 it's held up great! Other things I've done: -mounted links at one point on the chassis for less torque steer. -replaced 8shock canti setup for direct shocks at each wheel. Shocks inverted to keep chassis from sliding side to side. Luckily I was able to mount the shocks on the XTM canti mounts and it worked out perfectly! -replaced XTM yellow springs with softer XTM white springs. Also, spacers added to left rear shock and front right shock to help reduce torque steer -lowered overall ride height ~1". Center tranny clearance: 4 1/2" -lowered battery 1/2" - it's now as low as possible in the current location above the front links. I get full travel and no binding. -lowered and trimmed the body a tad -removed bb's in rear and lessened the amt of bb's in front tires With the suspension changes torque steer is almost completely gone now. Removing the bb's reduced the weight ALOT and run times have gone up as well as the overall performance. Here's some pics, enjoy! about 45degrees articulation now gd600 (3.3:1) - final crawl ratio ~181:1 1st gear, 113:1 2nd gear |

Looks good. Does haveing the 4-link mount to the frame in only one spot really help that much? Also how do you like having 45 deg of articulation? With my curent frame I have exactaly 45 deg and need some opinions about how much articulation I should have on my new frame. Do you think having 60 deg would benefit you X?

With the links at one point on the chassis it allowed me to mount the battery lower. Also it's said to reduce torque steer which I'd have to agree on. I talked a lil about this in your thread as well. 45degrees articuatlion seems to be enough. If your rig is well balanced then it doesn't hurt that much at all. Just look at how successful Pinflat and Kaetwo's V2 chassis has been. When it crawls through obstacles and a tire gets lifted in the air, then the opposite tire gets more pressure or down force since that tire is sitting on the rock and is supporting the weight.....so traction increases. So I think it does help. Some day when I have the $$$ I may try savage shocks for a bit more articulation but right now it does just fine |

Pretty much the same thing you do with 2.5 sliders which is bore out the yokes.....takes 2minutes with a drill. You can -drill the xtm pinion for a hole to fit the set screw -use a bft pinion direct fit - it sticks out further than the xtm or savage pininon so all you'll need is a 1/4" spacer -use a savage pinino which requires grinding the top part of the gear to fit. Do a search and you should find all the part#'s and some pics. |
