Default X-Factor Crawler :: My First

First time poster here, so howdy. I have been into RC for quite a long time. I currently Race Sedan Carpet track. However, being into Rock Crawling in real life (Images Here: http://www.networkconcepts.org/galle...Action+Gallery ) I thought I would build an RC Crawler. The Crawler below I built as a X-Mas gift for my best friend. He has never owned an RC Car and I thought I would break him in right.

The Ride:

X-Factor Gas Truck Converted to Electric.
Stampede Trans - Locked.
Composite Arrow Shaft Links
Wheel Base = 17.0"

The ride could use some more mods, including bead locks, bigger tires (narrow) and more. However this is for someone and not going to be mine so I thought I would leave some of those things for him to do.

More images can be found here: http://www.networkconcepts.org/RC

Here it is:

If you are thinking about starting another Crawler project, I highly recommend the X-Factor as a starting point. The axles on these are great imo. I am also really happy with the stampede trans.

I will right up more information later about the truck, and some of the custom things I had to do to get this thing rolling.

Revo Shafts were pretty easy.
1. Drilled out the hole on the Revo shaft to fit the X Pinion Shaft.
2. Drilled the X Pinion shaft so that the "pin" would go through the revo shaft and through the pinion shaft. NOTE: There is a "hardened coating" on the pinion shaft for the xfactor axles. You have to either use a high speed drill or grind off the coating.

I love the axles on the X-factor. The width is really nice, and the whole thing is really well built.

Been a while since I logged in here.

The White Thing: yest I had to extend the driveshaft in the rear. amazingly enough it does not hang up at all.

Jim: Yeah I heard you got into the rc scene again, that is great! I saw Tim and Eric the other day (saw them seperatly) at RCPLUS (www.rcplus.com) and they mentioned that you guys got into it to suppress the need for some real life crawling. Good to hear!

Update: so I broke down and am building my own crawler now with the extra rc parts I have laying around.

Parts list:
Custom Aluminum tub chassis.
TXT-1 Axles
Revo Shafts
Aluminum Threaded Savage Shocks.
Maximizer Bead Locks.
Tires? Hmmm not sure yet.

I know this thread is a bit old since it was started but I thought I'd toss in some needed info for those just now reading it....

To run Maxx or even better yet, Revo sliders on a X-Factor diff... Go pick up a couple of pinions for the AE BFT/MGT truck. They drop right in and are already pre-drilled and are the correct thing to do. It will cost you about $20-22 if I remember right. Saves time, effort and any headaches.

Watch the ring and pinions on X-Factor or X-Factor2 diffs. They WILL slip and you will loose teeth. The axle housings tend to flex and cause issues with the R&P's. Do yourself a favor, learn to shim the diffs properly and shim them a bit tight, not too tight but just enough to have a bit of drag happening. Then go buy extra R&P's for the pig of an axle. You will need them.

Be sure to get with Ryan when you are there. He'll help you out with the XF junk, although I don't think Tammies stocks XTM parts. Ryan is our Crawler "in" at Tammies

Nice rig. How well has the pede tranny lasted for you? I'm wanting to use it when I convert to electric, but I haven't seen many used in the X-factor. Also, the pics in the first post aren't working for me, do you have any pics of how the tranny is mounted?
