So have you ditched the stock X-F tranny for a complete E-Maxx tranny now? This will make things much easier. Just make two "L" shaped alu supports for the tranny to mount to the existing chassis sides, and you're done. Well, almost... You will need to carve a bit of the Maxx tranny motor mount plate to fit a 700 motor in it, and have to buy a 5mm bore pinion (try on sites dealing with Brushless stuff) The Revo driveshafts need just minor trimming to fit a Maxx tranny, soooo you should not need any more than that, uh? Just for clarity, you would have had no chances of finding an electric pinion with the big pitch of the 1:8 spur gears. But you could have adapted a Maxx style 32 pitch spur to the X-F tranny and used that as well. However I must say that your setup with Kongs, dual 700 and Evx is definitely not a crawler setup, no matter the chassis or artic. Too much power, weight, and an esc that isn't smooth enough to crawl at low rpm. You will have however a nice powerfull basher! Have fun! Last edited by rockspider; 04-04-2006 at 01:55 PM. |

A ton of sand is lighter when it's dry but you know what???? You still have a ton of sand You have no experience building a crawler.....I guess all these guys that KNOW how to build a crawler and KNOW that lighter is better are wrong. You need the power of those heavy *** motors to pull your TANK around. Exactly how heavy is it?

Eh, I would suggest taking your tranny or whatever part you are trying to size pinions for, and taking it to the LHS and sizing stuff right there. Raptorman57 knows his stuff, as do most people who post answers to questions in this section. The twin force and X-factor are not super popular builds, so no point in burning bridges with help ;) worst comes to worse, you should design a new way to do it and run the original pinions.. Think zen. ;) There is no spoon.. I don't have any experience with E-maxx trannies or parts whatsoever, however I do have an X-factor 2 that I wheel all the time, so I canhelp somewhat with that I guess. I may eventually turn my X-factor into a crawler, but I still enjoy it too much as a nitro.. So yes, essentially a useless post, _bR3T7 |

yes, i can see that the x factor and tf are not like too terribly much here...but i guess thats what im all about , you know?...if i am liked for what i do, then it doesnt leave me too many people to prove wrong. If i did anything that conformed with society or people in general, it would go against me and what i believe in as it would suck away what makes me who i am. i guess even in rock crawling it shows up...my build is already hated lets just say that my rig and myself stand out (its the same with everything about me aka different )and i will have a rig to be proud of because at the crawler meets, i am sure that i wont see anything that remotely resembles mine ... lol enough of that...i FOUND the 4mm 32 pitch gears http://www.finedesignrc.com/default.htm ...btw, i am putting them on the motors to meet up with the tranny adios |

good luck with fine design. I hope he doesnt hit you with (undisclosed) steep shipping like he did me a few times. Search for his name in RC forums and see what comes up if you feel like ordering other items from him. You are right in that the TF and x factors are not popular. I think the TF/ MF is the best axle made right now though. I would like to see a narrow 2.2 style axle made with the same heft and thickness. Post up more pics of your build. Have you measured the pinions with a micrometer yet? There are shaft sizes like 4.17 and crap too. Crawlers are never easy, and there are no generic builds. Well, the TLT has some popular variations- but it is still handbuilt and custom pieced. |

Nobody is giving you a hard time dude, we are all helpful and love to see guys get new crawlers up and running. So I have a few questions for you on your rig, Are you using the stock X-factor links? they are actually pretty good links. Especially for crawling, I have only ever broken one of their ball ends doing about 35mph into a tree.. so They are beefy. The XTM ball ends are 4mm thread ends too. I have used Revo ends with some luck as well. The XTM ends are hella expensive unfortunatel... Next question: Are you using the stock wheels? They will fit maxx size tires incidentally, so you can run the red rocks, or any other maxx tire by IMEX or Proline right on them, then glue on some rock rings or something so they don't look like stock XTM wheels;) Next question: Pics yet?!?! I want to see your rig. We can all be very helpful with a few pictures, and offer up some pretty good suggestions. I've already received some great suggestions on my rig from pics I've posted.. So yeah! Great work so far, lets see some pics! _bR3T7

yeh its great to see someone else with rockability knowledge thats why i picked that as my name on here...the two halves that are tottally different in the media...marilyn monroe as the innocent sex symbol and charles manson as the demented cult leader. Its how the media can take the two of them and make them equally popular and "notorious" for completely different reasons. fascinating but yeah, im running jumbo kongs...and i made my own link suspension that brings my WB out to about 16-17"...im currrently redoing my links with the pitstopusa.com ones...they are kinda large compared to you guys, but so is my setup about 45 mins ago i finished my new steering servo mounts which took WAY too long to polish lol...but they look sickkk... and finally, yes ill have pix up with in maybe two weeks when i get all this put together |

5mm bore pinions that not fit on 700 motors???? What kind of motors are you using there? The Graupner 700 series (turbo and normal) motors all have 5mm shaft. That's why I told you that. I have a couple of them here, and 5mm pinions are a perfect fit. Wanna see pics! (maybe nobody told you that before...) |

yeah man, i ordered those 5mms from rc monster and they were TOO BIGG, so ive measured the shaft on the motors for an exact fit...its actually 4mm, its ok tho...i ordered those 4mm 32 pitch pinions from fine design...he said it will take 2 days to "make them" WTF??? and sum how my bill was uhhhh rather high for two gears ...i will DEFINATELY not deal with them again if he is going to go azz rape us crawler guys on his huge shipping charges bastard anywho those gears should get here soon and in the mean time i am still drilling and tapping out my 2nd version of the custom link setup... i saved $$ by getting the larger rod ends from pitstopusa.com BUT they require a larger link....7/16 is what im using, its VERY beefy looking and i wont have to worry about bends unless it falls off a local grand canyon lol GO BIG OR GO HOME... i think i found a name for this rig too....HAGGARD also, where can i find a kool old skool army lookin body for my XF...i lookd at a RUBICON body but i wanna get sumthin a lil more old skool and has more characer like an old army jeep/pickup rig body thanks again l8r |

Good job on the lathe purchase. That will serve you well. The biggest $$ spent is actually in tooling. If you do not have a grinder, it would be a wise investment so you can make your own bits n such. With your new lathe you can turn out any pinion to 4mm. It will pay for itself in savings 100 pinion borings from now!! |

Yeah... i made my links, steering tie bars, drag bars, milled out gears and all my other lathe parts on that baby Its been fun making the one-off parts and now fabrication is DONE on my truck!!! My truck had so much tourqe that it stripped out the hex on my Jumbo Kong wheels!!! ....Thats great that it has that much tourque BUT i had to order new rims ...RC4WD.com is where i got my BL03 Beadlocks ...THOSE SHOULDNT BREAK!!!...And it broke 11 teeth off of my Diff gear so EBAY came in handy well, Pictures should be up soon...BTW, which body should i get? I am still looking for an old army jeep rig...any suggestions on a kool body for the X-F??? thanks |
