the other day i locked the front and rear diffs in my x-factor, i used jb weld. ive locked many diffs with jb before and have never had this problem. i was putting the axles back together and when i went to spin the shafts it spun but felt like it was lopsided. i took the axle apart again to see if it was off balance. i removed the drive shafts from the diff and just spun that inside the axle casing, it spun fine and didnt feel out of balance. when i even put on drive shaft on either side and spin it in the axle it looks like its really bent and off balance. when i put both drive shafts on its really bad. Both my front and rear diffs do this and i cant think of what it is. have any of you experienced something like this before?? i dont want to go out and spend $50 on new diffs but i or any of my buddies cant seem to figure out whats going on. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jared

this happened to me too, that black gear that goes around the diff housing has 4 screws to hold it in place, the screws are 2 different sizes, they alternate: long, short, long, short. make sure to tighten them down evenly in a star pattern like lug nuts on a wheel.

i noticed that the screws were different lengths so i marked where they went when i took the diff apart. unless i messed up when i put them back together they are in the right hole. The ring gear sits perfectly flush against the diff case. things only get out of balance when i attach the drive shafts to the diffs out drives

someting could be bent, or maybe the bearings are messed up, other than that i have no idea

the drive shafts themselves are perfectly straight. i dont know how the bearings would mess it up unless there was something seriously wrong with them. it almost seems like the outdrives coming out of the diffs are crooked some how but i dont see how they could be since they sit in bushings or bearings themselves. unless some one else has a suggestion im just going to buy new diffs which i really dont want to do

when i locked my tlt axles , the same thing happened to me but only on one axle. it was my first time locking a diff and what i did was i think i put too much jb weld in it . i put so much that it was hard to close back up and i think that i couldnt tighten it all down evenly so it spins nice and easy without the shafts in it but as soon as i put the shafts in it turns with a lot more resistance than my other axle. unless i did somthing else wrong thats why mine is messed up, and i dont think there is a fix. at least for me

I think it might be that when you jb welded 'em you didn't put the shafts in to make sure everything was straight. Meaning I think it cured loppy, so it looks fine, but when you put on the shafts that small fraction of a degree it is off, really shows.
