| I tried out a savage pinion gear in the x-f axle and found out that it will "probably" fit with little work. The length is good and it fits the bearing perfectly. The gear mesh seems to match up, BUT there is a BEVEL at the top of the gear making the gear teeth a bit taller than the X-Factor pinion. This makes the top of the teeth RUB against the diff housing as the gear-teeth on the savage pinion is wider (or taller) than the x-f pinion savage pinion pic http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/293301.asp x-factor pinion pic http://globalservices.globalhobby.co...ery/149423.asp You can file down the savage gear until it is flatter. This would not be that hard to do b/c the bevel concaves inward at the center leaving little material to grind/file away. I'd have to say I'm 95% sure on this. If you choose this method you will also need the pin and either just cram it into the t-maxx coupler or tap it to 5mm b/c the t-maxx coupler is 4mm. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/293345.asp I didn't buy this pinion b/c I found another method. Associated MGT pinion: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXFUD7&P=7 The gear mesh for the MGT pinion matches up PERFECTLY! It's 13t, same as X-F pinion. In fact in my situation I don't even need shims inside. The pin matches up as well. No grinding necessary. Only thing is it is longer than the x-f or savage pinion. It makes the shaft stick out about 1/4" outside the diff housing. This space however can be accounted for with an equivalent spacer from the hardware store and then with as many diff shims as required. here's a few pics with the t-maxx slider shaft on ![]() ![]() Also driveshaft angles may become an issue depending on your wheelbase. I have a 16" wheelbase now with my new longer links and I don't think it's an issue. You can also adjust the lengths of the upper or lower links to point the pinion yoke more inline with the tranny's output as well. A few other suspension tricks exist but I won't go into it here. I still like the savage pinion and think it will work, but didn't want to go grinding away at it. The Associated MGT pinion requires almost no work! Haven't tested this out yet as I am building a new chassis for an electric conversion. I'll keep you guys updated on the durability. |

| hey, how did u stretch your wheel base?? also how do the tmaxx sliders work?? ive never really seen them before!! are they stronger than xfactor ones?? do they need to be telescoping?? thanks ryan |

After true hardcore crawling you'll notice the bearings wanting to "walk" out of there spots. The pinion will be flopping around. I'd suggest making a small spacer to stop the bearing from walking out of place. Spacer will be sandwiched between the slider and bearing on the pinion. My wheelbase is at 16.25" and I had to lengthen my sliders by about .5-.75"... much stronger now too. Have yet to twist

| u mean like this? ![]() Glad to hear this mod is working for someone else too! Let's me know all that research I did was worth it! Dude I love the tater-tot! That was the reason for me choosing my wheelbase length! I'll be sitting on Kongs too, but mine will be narrowed like DD's. :? What do u mean by lengthening the sliders by .5-.75" ? :? |

This is on my electric conversion using an emaxx tranny and custom chassis with longer links. Haven't tried the sliders yet, but all I hear are good things bout em. Telescoping is a good thing for driveshafts. 1:1 rigs like to use em too, think they're called cvd or cvo driveshafts where it's fixed at the transfer case as well as the axle of course, and the driveshaft slides in and out.
