I was wandering through Target and Toy's "R" Us today........................

And found a new line of R/C's made by New Bright call Max Electric, the sell a 1/5 scale buggy, 1/8 scale buggy, and a monster truck that looks to be 1/12-1/10 scale. Besides them using the name Max on that line, the tires on all three vehicles looked kinda familiar....in an Integy sort of way:shock:

Here's the 1/8 scale buggy, the front tires are modified Badlands ripoffs, the rears are modified Pede Talon rip offs, and the rims are moddified 2.8" All Stars on the production model, all of the tooling appears to be horribly done too, but the box are and the one in this photo are Rusty/Pede All Stars on all four corners with Pede Talons on the back. When I took a closer look at the box art, not only did I notice they used Traxxas rims for it, but the rears were off a Pede with no photoshoping done to get rid of the tires origins! I could easily read the Traxxas, SportTraxx, and Talon on the sidewalls of those tires!

The last one is the Monster Truck, kind of a neat little MOA rig, but the tread pattern on the tires are heavily based on the Savage 21/25's, and now that I look at the pic....the paint reminds me a little the Traxxas paint schemes too (could be that it is 1:45 am here though:roll

Theres a rc car shop in the mall in the fox cities you build your own all the same chassies and motors but you get to pick out tires wheels and body they have build stations there price is way to high and the quality is poor but the good thing is its getting more people interested in the sport hopefully

They are trying to caplitalize on the likeness to hobby-grade stuff. Some kid shows his parents a pic from an RC mag, and they go to the toy store (instead of the hobby shop). They see these on the shelves and think "Looks close enough" and buy it. It dosen't perform as expected, or breaks and the kid is done with it, and is left with a poor understanding and appreciation for true hobby-grade RC. :neutral:

The Traxxas sidewall info isn't on the production models, but the tread is a poorly made clone of the Talon as well as the Badlands. Look at the left rear on the box art model pictures, they litterally pulled the rear tires straight from a XL5 Pede and somehow mounted them on this buggy for pre production work and used those pics.

Could not agree more! I remember as a kid going to my uncles house each summer. He was big into RC's (Still is) and I LOVED going there to play with them! He had one of the first 1/4 scale tubed buggys, Grasshopper, Clod's, Planes, and a few boats. I would beg for a RC like his every X-Mas and B-Day. All I ever got was a Radio Shack POS RC or a Toys-R-Us POS. I would ask my uncle "Why can't I change my tires like you can"? or "Can we change my motor to make it faster?" and "I wish we could paint my RC like you can yours!" But I couldn't do any of that? They all had magnetic servos that would stop working after 4-5 runs, small, cheap motors, awfull wheels, and would eat through 8 AA batterys like nobodys bisness!! The day I got a Grasshopper from him for X-Mas was the greatest!!! The crap the sell in WalMart, Toys-R-Us, ect....SUCK!!!! That is a big reason kid's don't have "Good" RC's. The parents buy them those for way more than they should cost, they break, and they tell the kid's "You want me to spend $300 on one from HobbyTown!!!!" So they never see what a "Good" RC is like. They never know that every part can be replaced unlike store bought RC's. It's a shame....:roll:

Couldn't agree more Kenny, I worked at that particular TRU for 5 years..way too much of it at the refund counter (I preferred store room or janitorial, not too sure if it was dealing with people who demaded refunds, even if the toy wasn't bought at a TRU, or teh managers that would bend over backwards to take that toy back.) The HobbyTown I work for does have a few parents who have that reaction to the prices, others I've found that explaining the repairability of the vehicles and sometimes refering to the hobby grade r/c's as a form of "educational toy" since they will learn how to repair the truck and such.
