any crawlers in MN?

Hey guys, Has there been any talk yet of other comp locations?? I still think the Quarry in St. Cloud would be a great easily accessible site. And I think either Kevin or Troy said it's still the same distance for them from the metro as it is to TF. I'm open for a spring time GTG to feel the place out. Terrain pictures can be seen here: http://www.nitrokillers.com/album.php?albumid=7

That look great. Jason, do you know of any offrad tracks that direction? Slow is great fun, but with all the big brushless and your awesome batteries I will have to get something fast and "Clean"

St. Cloud is not even close to the same distance as Taylors, but I am always up for a little drive if I am not wheeling that weekend. Not sure about hosting a comp there, we would need to see how the rest of the club feels about the drive. We have a few members over in Wisconsin that already have quite a drive to Taylors falls as it is. You could always host your own GTG and give us a month notice on the date and time.

Actually from St. Paul to TF is about 50 miles St. Paul to the Quarry County park is about 65 miles. That's pretty close in my book. I'm just throwing it out there as another option. And I do realize that many from other areas have quite a drive already, I'm one of them.

Not to mention it's a 70 mph speed limit on 94 from 694 to St Cloud.
Some new rules the USRCCA is talking about, might require us to hold comps at at lease 2 locations anyway.
Plus it's getting harder and harder to set up courses at Taylors using lines we haven't already used before.

I've been trying my best to get at least 1 comp from each of the Spring/Summer, Summer/Fall series away from Taylors. So far without much interest.
But now that Quarry Park, and some cool looking spots in Duluth have been found. I personally favor moving a couple comps away from Taylors.
The racer guys drive plenty for the traveling series.
If guys aren't willing to drive to compete in an away from Taylors comp, they aren't very serious about competing, and could always take it as their throw out comp.

Agreed

I agree, these things should not be limited by a little travel. Sometimes you need to put forth a ittle effort and try new things in the name if fun.

Exactly........... Would be good move

Guys if you go to http://maps.live.com you can use the "birds eye" view to get an up close overhead look at the Quarry park in Waite Park, MN. I'm trying to locate other areas around the state as well.

Zoom in on the blue markers here:

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v...=0&phscl=1&cid=30C0C2755862EA80!120&encType=1

Marker one is the quarry park just go south of the marked parking lot.

Some of these are private areas but I wouldn't think it would be to hard to ask permission to use them. I will look in on this in the spring time.

Hi guys, Jason just clued me in to this discussion. I am a local in the St. Cloud area and would love to see some comps local to me. I wanted to come out to TF last year but could not due to work situation. Hope to hook up this year and have some fun.

Jason, looking at your marked spots on the map, I think Quarry is the only spot that is a park.... the rest I believe are all private property.

Another spot is under the Sauk Rapids Bridge if the water is down like it was all last summer, that is located in a city park. Probably will not show up in Google Earth yet, the bridge was just built a few years ago.

I think moving comps around would be a good idea to gain more exposure to the sport, maybe bring new members in and make things more interesting, please accept my humble opinion being as non of you know me....yet.

yeah I realize most of those are private property but I have no problem with trying to contact land owners and asking. A benefit of Private Property is that you don't have to worry about park visitors walking through the courses. lol If you could help by maybe seeing if you could get company names of some of these sites or property owners names I will see about getting in touch with them and asking. It never hurts to try. I'll keep scanning the area for rock out crops and see what other locals I can find.

Jason, I fiddled around with that for a while. Is there any way to print the map out? I have never played with that site before so...... A print out would help when driving around. Most of those places are only about 10 mins from my house.

Fixed13 if you can find out the owner of the old quarry pit at location number 2. It's the one right off of I 94 and the Sauk River. That place has had me wondering about it for quite some time. I know most of these shots are about 2 yrs old at least that's how old the ones of my house up here in Alexandria are. That field before you get back to the old quarry may actually be a gravel pit these days.
